I actually saw this guy play one game in the NHL; furthermore, I saw it live. Back when Habs were winning games.

A 4th string goalie who lost his AHL starter then AHL backup job to two rookies for a former good prospect who flamed out and will probably go back to Czech Republic after the season.

I don't know why but I like trades like these.

So what's the scoop on Zdenek Blatny? Can't seem to find very much. Jay Feaster must know something to trade away the emergency goalie.

Not sure about that. Boutin, Coleman and Cey are all playing decently right now, and there are two Euro goalies to sign for next year. I guess if someone was interested, might as well move a goalie now.

When Burke stepped on the puck in practice and strained his groin, Eklund was the first called up and he was on the post season roster the last two seasons. However, I do believe we have better goalie prospects now thus making Brian expendable. Plus if he is being outplayed and you can get something for him why not?

Blatny was a former Atlanta pick who was supposed to be a 2nd line scorer. Okay in the minors for a few years, got called up to the big leagues a handful of times, and did absolutely nothing to keep him with the Atlanta organization. Very underwhelming. In fact, I forgot he was no longer in the system.

I knew he was in the Boston system, kinda dissapointed he is gone but there wasn't really any room for him. I think he kinda reminds me of a worse Kolanos lol..

What do the Bruins honestly expect in return for Raycroft?

If Marty Biron is only drawing offers of a 2nd round, I can't imagine Raycroft is doing much better.

Big difference. Biron is an UFA, essentially a playoff rental. Could be high-risk.

Whoever trades for Razor has him under contract for a few years. Much more incentive to get value for whatever you send the other way...

I remember The Hockey News discussing the salary cap used Eklund's call-up this year to examine the nature of the cap. It noted that it was cheaper for Eklund to come up and fill the spot compared to Coleman, because their salary differences meant that T-Bay would save something ridiculously tiny like $300 per day, and that if the call-up were to be longer than just a few days, the savings could have an impact on the Lightning's ability to trade or call-up someone else.

I can't remember for certain. I'll have to dig up that issue. It was this season's Pucks & Bucks, if I'm not mistaken.

Like everyone else, I believe this trade is two-fold

1) It creates room next year for Tampa to bring in either Norrena or Ramo at the AHL level

2) It gives Boston even more flexibility in net, so they can finally work out a deal.

That said, we all though that the Bartovic-Leighton swap at the beginning of the year was a precursor to Buffalo shipping one of their goalies out, and here we are in February with nothing done.

So I guess you never know.

I'm not sure his long term contract helps the Bruins to trade him.
