As a Rangers fan, I will say Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak

Kunitz may be some lame analytics darling in the past, but if you watch even 2-3 games you would quickly come to the conclusion that he negates all offensive momentum when he is out there. He is only in the top 6 because of some weird loyalty to him for his services. He's a solid 3rd/4th liner when he is finally where he belongs with limited minutes, but he is no longer a top 6 forward, he wasn't last year either.

He hasn't produced like a top 6 forward since 2013-14. He's barely out producing Cullen, Guentzel, and even Rust when he was healthy. Kunitz is a good 4th line LW'er. That's about it at this point.

His career average per season is 54pts.

Had he played 82 games this year, he'd be on pace for 35pts.
He was responding to my post about Kunitz being a good player with the Ducks before he ever played with Sid. And that's correct. He didn't say anything about his play recently Was, not Is.

Sheary and Guentzel are both good, young players. They are meshing well with Crosby and the line has been great. However, they haven't been playing together nearly long enough to be called the best line in hockey.

People who don't actually watch Pens games regularly will automatically assume that Sheary and Guentzel are merely your classic case of bottom-sixers riding the coat-tails of an elite player. Sadly, this couldn't be further from the truth. Both Sheary and Guentzel have been playing PHENOMENAL hockey in their own right and have earned their places on Sid's wing. It's never been any secret that Sid thrives with fast, tenacious wingers and these two just seem to gel perfectly with him.

That being said, as a Pens fan if you were to tell me even 2 years ago that we would be spoiled with this much young depth up front I would've called you crazy. Between Sheary, Guentzel, Rust, Wilson, Kuhnackle, Sundqvist, and soon Sprong, we might actually be able to build 4 quality lines without having to dish out millions on over-prices FA's and ageing vets for a change.

There's a few lines killing it this year.

Pastrnak plays mostly with Krejci the past month to spread out the scoring a bit but still takes shifts with them and p.p. time - but since New Years when Bergeron seemed to be over his injury - Marchand, Bergeron and Pastrnak have put up some great numbers.

In 32 games since
Marchand 27 - 21 - 48
Pastrnak 12 - 25 - 37
Bergeron 10 - 26 - 36

121 points in 32 games.
That's 125 goals and a 310 point pace over an entire season.

Its a great line and could potentially be a top 3 line. But i wanna see if Sullivan is smart enough to even keep that line intact when everyone is healthy for the Pens. they could have something special like last year if they do that and maybe get some good combinations and chemistry in the other 3 lines.

is it really hyperbole to say the line with the best player is the best line?

simple case of letting his hatred for kunitz override and reading comprehension skills. happens to everyone.

The Crosby line is successful being of Crosby...so there's no point in mentioning that.

I'd say either
Ovie/Backstrom/Oshie or Bergeron/Pastrnak/Marchand

I assume that first sentence is supposed to say "because of" Crosby which still isn't going to be true regardless of how many different ways people say it. It helps having Crosby on a line but Sheary & Guentzel aren't passengers letting Sid bank goals off of them into the net.

Most people would consider that a pretty solid starting point. Most.

So the Crosby line is only successful because of Crosby, but those other lines are a case of all three players being good and not because there's a star scorer on the line?

I really don't understand why people can't understand that Guentzel and Sheary are actually a big part of why that line has been successful. You can't just put anyone on Sid's wing and say, "see? Potent line". If you could, then we (Penguins fans) wouldn't have been going apoplectic when Kunitz was on the line dragging it down, or when Rust wasn't clicking with Crosby.
