You're always welcome! Who would've thought for the past 16 years people wanted to join OUR bandwagon?!

Congrats Columbus! Always loved Saad when he was on the Hawks and I'm glad to see he and his new team are doing well (the fact that they are in the east makes that much easier to say :-))

Perhaps that's because NYR haven't clinched a playoff spot.

The CBJ clinching this early in the season is pretty astounding considering how bad everyone were expected them to be.

What effect is this having in Columbus among fans and casuals?

I know it's a big college sports town more than hockey. Has this season improved their local fanbase?

I used to go to bars to watch the games because it was a good way to spend some quiet alone time to wind down. That changed during the streak when the bandwagoners came out and started cramming into bars.

It is a college town, but this city would kill for a winning team other than the Buckeyes. In a sense, we got that with the Cavs and Indians this past year, but obviously that's a little different. After football season, many are left with no teams to cheer for other than the Cavs, as Buckeye basketball has been crap for the past few years.

Enter a winning Jackets club. I went to a game on a Tuesday recently and it was close to a sell out. In the past you would need a Saturday night game against Pittsburgh, Detroit, or Chicago to reach a sellout merely because of all of the invading fanbase. To see it on a Tuesday against none of those teams was very cool.

well what did you want them to think, they were a lottery team last year...

Yes, a lottery team with a coach that everyone thought was going to make them even worse. Which makes what they've done all that more impressive.

The Yahoo graphic is particularly impressive if you consider that there are three clear "clusters" in the division:

Top - Pittsburgh, Washington
Middle - Philadelphia, Islanders, Rangers
Bottom - Carolina, Columbus, New Jersey

With only a couple of exceptions (Car/NJ moving up to middle on 3 ballots), the writers picked those clusters to stay the same. Which they did in reality... except for Columbus, which rocketed up from the bottom to the top. That's a very unpredictable result in an otherwise very predictable division.

I think there's a natural rivalry there that was ready to get going as soon as Columbus became a good team. After the fairly intense 2014 series Columbus kind of stumbled the next two seasons, but they're back with a vengeance this season. Not to mention your coach absolutely hates the penguins.

Columbus is a team i'd like to avoid honestly. I think Pittsburgh can beat them, but it would be a grueling, intense series, and not one that i would want to follow up with a series against Washington. And of course there's the possibility of Columbus winning. You don't have 100 points in March by fluke, they're a legit threat to win the cup. #1 in the metro is becoming a big deal, as i doubt Toronto or NYI would pose much of a threat in comparison.

Bob is the key. If he can play well, they win big, but if he doesn't go lights-out, this team will remind a lot of people of Montreal last year.

Congrats to CBJ fans - Atkinson, and many other players seem to have become legitimate stars overnight (at least as the rest of the league watches).

I keep seeing references, mainly from Penguin fans, about how Columbus is a dirty team. Can someone provide a list of all the players that have been hurt this year when playing the Blue Jackets? Having seen all but a handful of their games I'm guessing it's a pretty short list.

I work about 100 feet from the front offices and the arena and I'm considering printing this off and running it over there so they can put it up in the locker room. Talk about motivation, as if they needed it already.

This team has been an absolute joy to watch all season.

Could CBJ fans act like it's we have had a great team before? Maybe. But we haven't, so we are a little excited. Not so different than all the Toronto threads discussing their bright future and young stars.

I think some have mentioned dirty players, and I'm assuming they're thinking of Dubinsky and Hartnell, who are nasty but not Matt Cooke types either. But when people say they're concerned about injuries from playing the Jackets it isn't necessarily dirty players. Jenner, Foligno, Anderson, etc... Those guys will wreck players with legal hits.

Local TV ratings are up...bigly. http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/J...L-ratings.aspx Up over 100% YoY.

Home attendance will finish at its highest mark since 2007.

A lot of things helped, but of course winning cures most everything. Nearly any non-Canadian market would have suffered with fan attendance & enthusiasm with consistent losing and just two playoff series losses (no wins) in 16 years.

The local amateur football team got smashed in their bowl game. That coincided with the 16-game win streak, so there was more time afforded to pay attention to the CBJ. Additionally, the local amateur basketball team was atrocious so those extra entertainment dollars and eyeballs have gone to the Jackets. Several of the largest crowds in CBJ history and several of the highest-rated regular season games in CBJ history have come this season.

Now, if the team can pick off a playoff series win and be a top 5 team next year? Then you'll get the city really cooking.
