Using part of the assets acquired in that trade to pay off the XD tax man is still value. You can't just erase it out of the equation, like you're trying to do here. Or if you really want to, then you have to consider whoever else we got to keep in his place as part of the return for that trade.

I like Dano's game, and would be happy to have him in the bottom 6 next year. But he just hasn't shown quite as much as the other guys.
I'm not a fan of Dano's game - he's a good agitator but his skating, playmaking and touch around the net are lacking. Copp and Lowry get better every game - Armie will be something special - he has skills that show up every now and then that make you think about this kids potential if he can pull it all together.

These 3 are my favorite players on this team - they always seem to show up and it's great seeing them score in addition to shutting down the opponents top line(s) night in / out. Notice their ice time in the 3rd?

I don't know if putting Laine back with Scheifele would be some magic bullet to fix his game. He's just been in a bit of a rut. Probably, as others have suggested, the rigors of his first NHL season catching up to him.

It may even be better to have Little paired with him for now, as he is such a defensively responsible player, and Laine has been needing the help. Leave Scheif on a hot scoring line.

Laine will be back to form eventually.

Honestly I sleep through most hockey games but I still hear the game. Why was the cheering so loud when Wild scored? Then it was 4-4 and I did not hear anything after that but I laughed when I woke up and it was 5-4 with 3 minutes left.
Great finish and I did not even realize Hutch was in net. I guess PoMo is smart.

Put Hutch in net against Philly.

Or we could have traded Ladd earlier for peak value. Boston traded Lucic at the draft instead of waiting until the trade deadline. They received a top 15 pick & a top 10 starting goalie (who they flipped for another 1st rounder).

I think Dano's touch around the net is decent, but the numbers don't really show it yet. He's been robbed a few times. Plus, his rotating 4th line mates haven't done much for him.

But otherwise I agree.

Also agree on Lowry, Armia, and Copp.

Just got home. The game was no Picasso but sure was a lot of fun. I can't even imagine the GDT after the 2nd period, the carnage would have been pretty deep. And Stu is worse than Strait.

Armia and Lowry are who they are, they are, 24 years old and are unlikely to be much beyond what they are right now, bottom-6 players, and closer to the bottom 3 than the middle 3. Dano has 5 less points than Copp in 20 less games played, Dano is the 5th highest P/60 player on the Jets and has done so playing with plugs, produced at the AHL at a good level for his age. I know which player I am putting my money on, but sure by all means throw out hot taeks based one game where he nabbed a point

You're right. We totally should have predicted Ladd's hernia injury would impact his play in the season leading up to his trade, and impacted his value. Damn the Jets and their inability to foresee the future.

I also fully agree with the idea you should trade away all your good players while they're still good. We'll never win another game, but damn we will have a lot of draft picks.

I'm going to stop talking about this now, because I'm in a good mood after watching that extremely entertaining game.

I wonder if it would make sense to rest Laine for a game? As mentioned, he's probably not use to an 82 game schedule

Same happened to Stafford as well. Interesting how it only seems to happen to the Jets

He's missed a few because of concussion. Has he been awful the last few games? Not really... he just isn't scoring. He's been involved in goals tho. Screen in front on the game winner tonight

Those RFA slaves will ensure you stay under budget. Oh sure every once in a while you meet a Trouba maker.

So sad we don't have at least 1 capable replacement on defense, and now Chairot may be injured

It's too bad everyone can't play with Scheifele.
Everyone seems to play better with him.

Hutch and Hellebuyck both suck.

But they have played Hellebuyck way too many games in a row and he is way too inconsistent.

Stu is no longer anywhere near NHL caliber at this point in his career. He needs to be the veteran presence on the Moose next season.
