The team with the injured player generally needs possession unless the refs deem it a serious injury that needs attention. If they thought Martin was struggling like that due to concussion it was absolutely the right call to blow it dead.

Granted, I'm not sure how they could think he had a concussion given he didn't come close to contact with anyone and a quick glance should have shown you he wasn't dazed but just struggling due to how awkward it was.

2 vs. 5 for boarding is entirely up to the discretion of the ref, not whether an injury is present. The automatic part is that if 5 minutes is given and there is an face/head injury, a game misconduct must also be given.

That said, like I mentioned earlier, if Bergeron stays down, it's almost guaranteed to be 5, but would then mean a game.
So the blood on face isn't an injury?

Sounds like it. I always thought the team with the injured player needed to have possession but need clarification.

It is, but in the rules that's irrelevant to the 2 vs. 5 debate.

2 vs. 5 is entirely on the judgement of the referee.

Yeah, seems like it was a panic whistle that was ill timed and poorly explained. I can see how the call was made now that you and WD explained it, just poor officiating on that instance.

Cheers

They'll stop it right away if it looks like a potential serious injury, i.e. player going headfirst into boards, shot hitting a guy around the head. But even if it looked like Martin was hurt, it would be lower body, and he was at least trying to get to the bench, so probably shouldn't have been called regardless.

EDIT: Oops, forgot that this tab hadn't been refreshed in a while, notice it's already been answered.

Bergeron gets 5 if he milks it, stays down, and doesn't get up looking for retribution IMO.

Calling the play dead so Martin can get to the bench is one of the stranger things I've seen. Think it's just a botch or incompetence. Still awful though.

This is one of the first times this year the calls have clearly been in our favour, but think you need take take a step back. Besides the no boarding major, and Martin call the rest of the calls were the right ones.

We have a snoozefest in Nashville.

No score after 1 period and Coyotes lead in shots 5-4. Despite that shot total, the game has been more boring than that.

This is a true statement.

I'd also add there's actually been 2 power plays even

Bad yes. Major/Suspension worthy? No.

If is soooo bad, why isn't anyone making a thread about it yet...Isn't that how it goes? Guess isn't bad enough to be thread worthy?

Yeah, two bad calls in the first have Bruins fans riled up paired with how important this game is for both teams. Both teams are putting on a show here and I'm looking forward to the 2nd!

Despite having a lot of great young talent this Buffalo Detroit game sure is a snoozer

Its understandable, big game for both. I'd probably be thread banned by now if the situations were reversed.

Well there's the (a?) makeup call for the Bruins.

Marchard launches himself backwards to draw the penalty.

There you go Bruins fans. A ridiculously soft call to even it up.

Kadri embellishes high-sticks and hooks. Can't remember a time with him diving from being shoved.
