Sweet Caroline?

Hi all,

Great game tonight....I'm an ex-New Yorker, and this was my first time watching a Rangers game this year while up here in Canada. I'm impressed....big difference between the 2006 team and the teams they've had the last seven years!

Just one question though--what's the deal with "Sweet Caroline" being played at the end of every win at MSG? When did that start, and who started it?

Renney started it...they started playing his favorite song in the locker room after a win and now it has become huge.

hahaha...that's awesome. Hilarious stuff, I nearly fell off my couch when the TSN broadcasters up here explained what was going on. Well-deserved song tonight, for sure.

Thanks,
Dave

they've been doing the song in at the game for a while now.

sometimes, they will play it with like 5min left to go in a 1 goal game. scares me a bit.

The best part about the song tonight was that the whoever played the music started it too late before the faceoff so he/she had to shut it off before it got to "Sweeeet Caroline". The crowd happily kept it going. The Garden was absolutely electric tonight, the best it has felt all year to me. Gotta love winning.

Were you at the game tonight? It did sound very loud all night over the TV, but you can never tell for sure unless you are there.

story behind "Sweet Caroline"?

Caught the last minute or so of the game last night, good thing I didn't see the whole thing.

Anyways, during that last minute, the commentator mentioned that near the end of Rangers wins, they play "Sweet Caroline" in the arena. And sure enough, with about 30 seconds left, the song was played and the fans song along?

What's the story behind this? Why that song, and is it just something that started this season?

theres a post a bit further down the page about this.

It is a 'this season thing'. It's a song they always play in the locker room after a win. One way that fans got to know about it when Kaspar and Nemo where on MSG talking about it after a game. (And trying to sing it, not a pretty sound!)

Loads of differing opinions as to why that song though. One being that it's Coach Renney's favourite song

I was at the game last night and they didn't play Sweet Caroline at the garden after the game. They play it in the locker room after victories sort of like how the Mets played LA woman in their locker room after victories in 2000. Jagr likes the song and it makes the team happy after a victory it's become a tradition this year. Some of the fans were singing it accapella on the way last night. BTW it was Robin Ventura who started the LA Woman song tradition in the Mets Subway series season ... (Let's forget who lost to that year in the Series).

Sometimes after games they have a camera on Renney congratulationg the players after a win as they walk into the locker room and you can hear "Sweet Caroline" playing in the background.

I was also at the game... They did play the song during a stoppage toward the end of the game, but then turned it off because play was about to resume. the fans just kept singing.

yeah I flipped over after the CBJ crushed LA, because I have Lund and Jagr in fantasy hockey, and I noticed the song as well. The crowd was in unison singing the refrain, impressive.
