OT - Replacements for Olympic team announced

Macabe was promoted from the taxi squad to the main squad to replace Jovo (which is entirely deserved), Jay Bouwmeester is named to the main squad (to replace Nieds), and Danny Boyle is named to the taxi squad. Am I the only one who doesn't like the Bouwmeester appointment? Granted, the ice is bigger and his speed will be more of an asset there, but does anyone not on the team deserve to go more than Dion Phaneuf? I was the last person to jump on his bandwagon but even I have to admit, this guy is a super stud. I was shocked to see how well he produced offensively, not only defensively. Consider these numbers (first is total number, then position amongst d-men and then amongst Canadian d-men):

Goals: 12 (5th, 3rd)
Assists: 23 (24th, 11th)
Points: 35 (14th, 6th)

He's also a +3, while Bouwmeester is a -6. Phaneuf has outplayed J-Bo offensively, and his defensive exploits are known to all. Who would you have named? Possibilities include:

Brad Stuart
Philippe Boucher
M-A Bergeron
Brian Campbell

Phaneuf has played well enough to earn the spot on the main roster IMO. However, the past experience of those other two gets the nod, which seems to be a trend this year. All is not lost as I guess we will be seeing Dion in that lovely new Team Canada jersey for years to come, including likely being the rock on defence in Vancouver in 2010. Having watched a lot of Flames games on TV this year, this guy is the real deal, and he could be on my team any day.

Boucher would make it before Dion.

Phaneuf would be been the obvious choice for me.. He can play well offensively and defensively and has "excelled" at every level of play.. Stupid move by Team Canada

Don't forget that he has no International "A" level experience. Gretzky like good young, experienced players.

id rather see phaneuf over boumeester. phaneuf could bring a stronger physical force and compensate for the loss of scott stevens.

IF Bouwmeester was in Calgary... how do u think he'd be?

I'd rather have J-Bo than Phaneuf

for the big ice surface, trust me...you'd want bouwmeester. he isn't scoring goals, but he makes great passes and is probably the best skating d-man in the league. he doesn't hit as often as phaneuf, but when he wants to he can absolutely level people.

Phaneuf would of been my choice too, what happend to that guy anyways? He's like the next Bobby Orr now, Nasville and especially Atlanta GM's must be pulling there hair alot now. Too bad we right next after Calgary, althought Kostytsin was very high rated by Savard at that time
