Will any trades be made by the trade freeze?

I'd say no, unless it's a steal.....why pay a guy not to play for a couple weeks?

The only bonus about acquiring someone before the freeze is if they aren't going to the Olympics, it gives them a chance to move and settle, learn the system a bit for when the league starts back up. But other than that, there is no reason to make a trade before the freeze.

I think that there will be some deals, after today. Probably by tonight, after the G.M's meetings end. I'am not saying their will be alot of deals, but some will happen today. You can't get 30 G.M's together and not have a couple deals come out of it. Most of the G.M's will start laying the ground work for deals , for after the Olympic break.

its the real drawback of a cap system, I have always enjoyed the flurry of trades before the deadline, but this year, I just dont know. it has been busier a couple weekes before the deadline in past years, no question this a getting off to a slow to non existant start.

I still think there will be a good amount of action on trade deadline day, but that is still a month away. There is only a 2 week roster freeze now for the olympics. Teams will be more likely to trade for a player when his cap hit is less(ie closer to the seasons end) then they would be now.

I think the cap makes the dealine more interesting. All of a sudden second ltier players value goes up and i think you might see more value for value trades instead of Player for draft pick or prospect.

The Coyotes will probably make a trade.

Eklund on Team 990 talk this morning about Dallas Drake to Philly and Sean Avery, don't know where.

I know it's Eklund but we don't know...

Hawks general manager Dale Tallon, in Las Vegas on Wednesday and today for GM meetings, thought some teams would be active in adding players before the break. The Hawks could make several more trades before March 9 in an effort to trim the payroll. It’s no secret the Hawks are offering defensemen Jassen Cullimore and Todd Simpson and centers Jim Dowd and Curtis Brown around the league

It depends - if a team is trading a player for prospects than perhaps they wait until after the Olympic break to reduce the cap hit. However, if teams are swapping roster players then some moves could happen before the deadline tomorrow. The cap hit is less of a consideration assuming you're looking to balance out the monetary hit of the players being traded.

On a personal note, if my team were involved in a trade, I'd want them to do it before the break and give the new face(s) some time to fit in and get some practice time in before resuming the stretch run to the playoffs.

A trade freeze doesn't stop GMs from talking. Deals there before the trade freeze might not necessarily be there after.

I think GMs would be wise to wait until after the freeze to make trades. Especially if they have a lot of players going to the Olympics (like the Avs, which have 10 guys going). You just never know who might get injured in Turin, and GMs might just have to rethink which holes they need to plug.

Oilers will trade George Laraque to LA for Sean Avery. I got it from a good source, Al Strachan's moustache.
