Star Gazing
  • Dallas is 70-6-6 when leading after the 1st Period since Dave Tippett took over as Stars head coach three seasons ago. Dallas is 18-1-1 this season.
  • Dave Tippett is 121-58-28-9 as the head coach of the Dallas Stars with the 5-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes, Thursday night.
  • With five goals againist the Coyotes, Dallas has now kept from being shut out in 72 consectutive games. Dallas's last shut out was againist Detroit in the 03-04 season on March 13th, in a 3-0 game. In the Stars 49 games this season, only three teams (Detroit 4-1, Phoenix 4-1, Minnesota 2-1) have kept the Stars from scoring atleast two goals in the game. This is the longest the team has gone without being shutout since they moved to Dallas in 1993. The previous mark was held by the inaugural 1993-94 Dallas Stars squad who were first shutout in their 38th contest of the season. The franchise mark for consecutive games from a start of a season without being shutout is held by the 1982-83 team who were shutout only once and that came in their 79th game.
  • The Dallas Stars are now 8-0 in shootouts this season, having beaten Colorado in Denver on Nov. 5 (2-0), the Sharks in San Jose on Nov. 12 (2-0), the Hurricanes on Dec. 2 (2-1) in Dallas, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Jan. 6 (2-1) in Dallas, the Boston Bruins on Jan. 14th (1-0) in Boston, the Blues on Jan. 25th (2-0) in Dallas, the Avalanche in Denver on Jan. 26th (2-1), and the Red Wings on Jan. 28th (3-2) in Dallas. Jussi Jokinen is eight for eight during the shootouts and Marty Turco is 13 of 16 in net for the Stars. Dallas is the only team remaining in the NHL that has not lost a shoot out
  • When trailing after one period, the Stars are 11-10-2 on the season. And when trailing after two periods, the Stars are now 8-12-1 on the season. The 11 wins when trailing after 1 period is the best in the NHL this season and the 8 wins when trailing after 2 periods is also the best in the NHL this season. Dallas has won 22 games this season when falling behind some point during the game.
  • Dallas is 10-0-1 this season when scoring four goals, and 16-0-0 when allowing one goal. The Stars also have posted a 36-4-2 record this season when allowing three goals or less. Their record is the third best in the NHL.
  • The Stars will play a total of 15 back-to-back series in 2005-06. The Stars are currently 16-5-0 in games included in back-to-backs this season, including 8-2-0 in the second contest. The Stars drilled Phoenix Thursday night 5-1 and will look to win again Friday in San Jose. The Stars are 8-3-0 in the first game while 8-2-0 in the second.
  • Thursday night Dallas scored 5 goals in a game for the first time since January 8th, 06 when they defeated Detroit 6-3.
  • Niko Kapanen scored three goals in Phoenix Thursday. It was Kap's first career hat trick. Before Thursday, Niko had never scored even 2 goals in the same game.
  • The Stars were able to punch in three powerplay goals on Thursday againist the Coyotes. It was their fourth powerplay goal in the past two games.
  • The Stars' Niko Kapanen not only punched his way through on the powerplay and on 5 on 5 action but also was able to get a shorthanded goal. The Shorty was Dallas' second shorthanded goal in their past two games. It was the first time Dallas had scored a shorthanded goal in back to back games this season. It was Dallas' 8th shorthanded goal of the season.

They score. Just too much. Tons of penalties early but the 5 on 3 is over and they don't stay on the job as it had just ended and became a 5 on 4. So it's 1-1 in San Jose. Come on Dallas.

You mean you hope the Stars can rebound for Sunday, this was not Turco's fault that the team in front of him played like complete crap. It wasn't Turco who kept giving the puck away to the Sharks in their own zone. Turco at least gave them a chance in the 3rd to come back. The Stars as a team have to want it as bad or more than the other team and last night, the Sharks wanted it more. The Stars sat back and let them own them in their own zone.

GO STARS!

Obviously this was one of our worst games in 06 so far. Hope they can wake up for tomorrow as tomorrow could really put the division away.
