This is the problem with Fowler. Great in transition, not good enough in either end to drive impact proportional to skillset.

Not perfect. But if I can get him for the eighth pick with just a dash of extra, say sabres 2nd round and stephens, I'm on it.

He brings enough to be worth the trade and eventual contract. Based on our needs at least.

He's kind of a jack of all trades/master of none type of player. He can play big minutes in any situation but isn't going to dominate them. But he will be effective.

They traded out of a position of dominant strength to get an older player with less upside at a position of need and got immediately worse as a result. This would have continued had Weber kept aging, because that entire team was built around him eating minutes and freeing up opportunities for the guys behind him.

Shea was already getting worse at winning those difficult matchups, his goal and possession stats had fallen YoY, and the Preds compounded this by going from 0 minutes of bad defenseman to 15-18.
This looks a lot like overthinking this and getting lost in some numbers.

RyJo (24yrs old) is older than Jones (22) but still very young. It hardly shorten the Preds window by making this trade.

The Corsi/SCF% numbers don't mean a whole lot for half season. Or at least it's an incredibly weak argument to say they got worse based on those numbers.

IMO it's pretty silly to argue that trade didn't improve the Preds roster overall. Or that it even made them worse.

I don't know how anyone can argue the RyJo for Jones trade. It's the perfect example of a trade where both teams won.

The corsi brigade can cause that's all that matters.

Again, Weber for Subban is why the Preds are so good this season, not Jones for RyJo. Otherwise they tread water until Weber falls off.

Yeah it really takes a spreadsheet to realize that replacing 20 minutes of Seth Jones with really bad defensemen will make a team worse.

Ah yes, the horrible top four on Nashville without Seth Jones.

Trade was easily a win-win. The league used to have more of these things.

Who was the jones replacement?

Blum or Ekholm? I don't watch Nashville enough to know and I refuse to look it up. Too much work.

If you actually look at the TOI/G stats for the Nashville D for this season versus 14/15, you will some interesting stuff.

In 14/15, only Josi and Weber played over 20m/g and they were up around 26m/g.

This year, Josi, Subban, Ellis, and Ekholm were all about 20m/g.

In 14/15, Jones was third and Ellis and Ekholm were 4th and 5th in TOI/G.

So, it's not like they have given the bulk of Jones' minutes to really bad D. They just gave Ellis and Ekholm a bigger role.

It was really about adding RyJo and making their 3rd pairing worse. Most teams make that deal.

Which made my chuckle at all the talk on the trade board that he hasn't had a good post-draft season.

It's both of them...

They can buy him out if he refuses. Doubt their owners are stupid/tight enough to not allow that.

But ducks would still lose one decent D, thats a given.

I am expecting that deposed #Sabres GM Tim Murray will join his old friends/colleagues Chuck Fletcher and Brent Flahr in #Minnesota.

I would say if he does Minnesota is likely about to rebuild. His drafts are always promising.
