Kyle Okposo (health update 4/23/17)

Islander fan here who just saw that it seems that something is more serious when it comes to why Kyle is out:

You don't often hear a coach use the phrase, "very concerned" if it was a normal injury/illness. Kyle is a great person so I really hope everything turns out to be ok.

Often times people are ill and undergo every test imaginable and no cause is found.
Then they get better. Probably a virus.
I am hoping its just a virus.

WGR reported on this yesterday. The way they worded more tests sounded grim.

I also found it wierd no HFSabre around here mentioned it.

There were several questions asked if he was quarantined for mumps and Bylsma denied it was mumps related.

I completely agree. I was shocked when I showed up to the boards here and no one was talking about it. It's significant news.

This seems deserving of its own thread though.

I hope he ends up being ok. Okposo is one of my favorite players and he seems to be a good guy outside of the sport.

The statement the team released was incredibly troubling and about the worst news possible. Forget his hockey career, I just hope he lives and gets to spend the next 50 years as a husband and father for his family.

This is scary. I wish Kyle and his family the best. I recently lost my dad due to completely blindsided lung cancer, and not to say this is in the same context, but I hope he is okay. The scariest part is the not knowing. I learned about his condition during the Canadiens game while at the game, and it totally of put a damper on the whole thing. Yeah, we won, but it's a meaningless game, especially when such a great guy like Kyle is in Neuro ICU.

I know he has his family, friends, team, and team of doctors working with him. I can't send any more well wishes.

Without knowing why he's in ICU, it is really hard to tell.

if you want to get really freaked out, go on WebMD and search every nasty thing that starts out as "flu like symptoms".

If I had to venture a guess, it might be meningitis of some variety. That is scary, but certainly treatable.

When my kids were in college, they had to be vaccinated against meningitis. It can be spread in close living situations like dorms, apartments, etc.

I know this is inappropriate:
If Kyle decides he no long wants to (or can’t) continue his career – what happens to his cap number?

It would be a Pronger-like situation.

It would count during the off season and then he would go on LTIR once the season started.

the Neuro ICU is very broad. It doesn't just deal with Brain but also spinal cord and nerves throughout the body. He could have any sort of thing related to: concussion, stroke-like symptoms, nerve damage, multiple sclerosis, some acute demyelinating disorder, blood clots, anything...

Wish him a good prognosis and recovery though, hate to see this happen to any person.

Hope for a speedy recovery for him.
Hopefully that means the worst is over.

Islanders fan coming in peace to wish the best to Kyle Okposo.
Seems like a great guy, great dad, and all-around class act.
Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.
