I remember watching the draft when he was picked and the guy said if he was over 6 feet tall he'd have been a consensus top 10 pick.

Thanks everyone for your leftovers

He was projected to be picked much lower if I remember and the Predators had him as a top 5 player. They had him as their pick for months leading up to the draft.

I found his old draft video on YouTube

Pierre was raving about him and the Defenseman, that he named are a blast from the past. And he looked 12 years old back then. Talk about projecting the future he became exactly the player predicted.

It's funny to hear the list of defencemen back then. It's all changed since.

Funny they mention Blum in that video. Amazing what a strong mental game will do to make, or break, a player's career when looking at two players like Ellis and Blum.

Remember when people were saying he was a bust in the final Trotz years?

I was so disappointed with this pick. I really wanted Poile to select Jordan Schroeder, thinking that he & Colin Wilson would dominate.

Glad I'm not running this team!

I've always thought he and Ekholm were excellent #2D. Ellis is finally getting his spotlight and it's about time.

That being said I want to warn people about next year when a potential drop-off may/will happen. His PDO (luck-o-meter lol) is above norm and will fall back down. He'll still be a stud, but his on-ice sv% will drop off from the 93.25 it's at right now back down to his consistent normal average of 91.5.

At the end of the day, good-work by Ellis and Ekholm in stepping up for the team and proving that they were underrated.

Yeah Ellis was absolutely killing it goals-wise this season and still is but as amazing as the 12.05 sh% is, it's going to drop significantly back to the average that you pointed out. He does have a wicked shot though.

I haven't been on the boards much this year but I would lurk every few weeks. At some point before the trade deadline there were people wanting to trade him because he was topped out and useless.....

Since the Stanley Cup Playoffs began, the Nashville Predators have been on roll including 26 year old Ryan Ellis. This roll tarted by dispatching the perennial cup favourites in the Chicago Blackhawks in four games. They currently hold a 3-1 series lead over another central division revival, the St. Louis Blues. This success has come about for numerous reasons including stellar goaltending, defense, and can even be attributed to the emergence of Ryan Ellis.

Ryan Ellis, 4 goals, 5 assists, 9 points with a 7 game points streak, the longest by a defenseman in 19 years. He is the only Dman in the top 10 in playoff scoring.

I think he is pretty good!
