So Eichel can play at 3/4 speed so his linemates can keep up?

And our joke of a second line is a liability? Reinhart can center it so it's slow too. Yay.

Pass.

There was a last minute number change. According to the LIVE stats page - Nick Schmaltz is now wearing #22.
USA Hockey lineup sheet - that I tweeted at the start of the game - had him wearing #17.

Also looks like there was a scoring change on the third United States goal - Dylan Larkin is getting credited as the goalscorer. Nick Bjugstad is getting one of the assists.

I had it muted and was on a call with a recruit but it looked like Eichel got player of the game award at the end

Can't wait to see Eichel be the best player every game but gets outscored by Dylan Larkin and we can hear about how Dylan Larkin is back and better than Reinhart and almost as good as Eichel.

Milan, Italy - The United States Men’s National Team earned a 5-2 victory over Italy tonight in its lone exhibition game in advance of the 2017 IIHF Men’s World Championship.

United States got off to a fast start with Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Buffalo Sabres/Boston University) wristing one home on the power play from the left circle at 1:24. Noah Hanifin (Norwood, Massachusetts/Carolina Hurricanes/Boston College) and Johnny Gaudreau (Salem, New Jersey/Calgary Flames/Boston College) were credited with assists on the play. It was the only goal of the period.

The United States struck quick to open the second period and again, it was on the power play as Jacob Trouba (Rochester, Michigan/Winnipeg Jets/University of Michigan) blasted one home from the center point at 2:54. The goal came after a United States face-off win and was just eight seconds into the man advantage opportunity. Christian Dvorak (Palos, Illinois/Arizona Coyotes) and Brock Nelson (Warroad, Minnesota/New York Islanders/University of North Dakota) assisted on the play.

Dylan Larkin (Waterford, Michigan/Detroit Red Wings/University of Michigan) wristed a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that bounded off and then over Italy netminder Andreas Bernard to increase the United States advantage to 3-0 at 8:56.

Italy got on the board on Giulio Scandella’s power play marker from the left circle at 11:38 of the second, but goals 1:20 apart less than two minutes after the Italian goal gave the United States a 5-1 advantage after two periods. Nick Schmaltz (Madison, Wisconsin/Chicago Blackhawks/University of North Dakota) made a nifty shoulder fake between defenders and put the puck up high from between the circles at 13:26 and then Nick Bjugstad (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Florida Panthers/University of Minnesota) put home Connor Murphy’s (Dublin, Ohio/Arizona Coyotes) shot from the point at 14:46.

Italy scored on the power play at 4:56 of the third as Giovanni Morini’s shot just trickled over the goal line to account for the 5-2 final.

Jimmy Howard (Syracuse, New York/Detroit Red Wings/University of Maine) finished with 9 saves in just over 31:38 of game play.
Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce, Michigan/Winnipeg Jets/UMass-Lowell) finished with 10 shots in over 28:22 of game play.

A total of thirteen players contributed points, including five defensemen.
Shots On Goal - United States - 31 - Italy - 21. Power-Plays - United States - 2 for 4 - Italy - 2 for 7.

The United States opens preliminary-round play at the 2017 IIHF Men's World Championship against Germany this Friday, May 5 at 2:15 pm ET.
The game will be televised LIVE on the NHL Network starting at 2:00 pm ET and will also streamed LIVE on the NBC Sports App.

Craig Custance is ****ing brutal at this. He has some inexplicable desire to pump Dylan Larkin's tires every chance he gets. Every time he talks about a USA lineup, he finds some way, however miniscule, to put Larkin ahead of Eichel. He will never put Eichel in a mock lineup on a higher line than Larkin. He won't even mention Eichel's name first, even if he's just listing players. It's actually really bizarre.

I can just picture him when tasked listing players on the US team, he realizes if he did list them alphabetically, Eichel would be named before Larkin by last name, so then he decides to just list them alphabetically by first name.
