Depends on alot of things really.

Eichel has proven he can be the 1c on basically a one line team. Almost hit ppg

Matthews has proven he is a capable center playing on a 3 line team buuuut he did it while centering rookies.

To keep this simple it depends on what you want around them.

Playmakers? Then Matthews
Scorers/playmakers ? Then Eichel.

Haha my reasoning probably sucks.

So ill do this simple

Matthews, i like his skillset more altho in my opinion eicjel is up there with him aswee

Eichel

I just don't see Matthews taking over games like Eichel does. Except his first game. lol

Eichel is so physically strong and a very fast skater but its his competitive drive that tips the scales for me. Matthews will be the better goal scorer. Or should I say he will score more goals.

Might want to watch more Leafs games then as he absolutely takes over games.

Matthews. Better at every level for their entire lives. Outscored Eichel's rookie season by 13 points with an offensive black hole on his line. Not even a question.

I live in Burlington and watched almost every game this season.

Sorry for being honest.

Either one would be great to have but the answer is Matthews and it's not even close.

Don't kid yourself. We have all seen your posts about Eichel and Matthews. Matthews takes over games. You just don't want to admit it. He's been better at every level, including a FAR more impressive rookie season. He's just the better player.

Saying Eichel is strong and therefore implying Matthews isn't is....questionable.

Yes Eichel is strong on his skates but Matthews is a beast.

Who were Eichel's main linemates in his rookie year?

While I like Matthews and think he's an outstanding young player, seeing Eichel the last 2 seasons, I am likely go to with him on this one, I'd need to see another year from Matthews before this is a much harder decision than it would be currently.

And you're both biased, one being a Sabres fan and the other a Leafs fan. Seeing both equally this year, I only give an edge to Eichel because there's more body of work at the NHL level and given that Bylsma is probably the dumbest coach in the NHL currently and how much he's likely hindering the kid, he's still been a damn good player in the NHL in his 1st two years.

If we adjust for ice time (points per 60 minutes) then Matthews was actually a bit more productive than Eichel this past season. Like Auston here more for the overall game he brings, both guys should be two of the best scorers in the league though.

Yup. You and I have an different opinion on being honest.

TIL being 2nd in goal scoring in the league means you don't take over games.

Wrong.
How many goals did the Leafs score this seaon vs. the Sabres last season.
Season to season vs. team to team you can't compare.

Matthews played in a mens league last year, remember???

Can't wait for the Sabres to play the Leafs in the playoffs.

I wasn't commenting on overall on a player, I was commenting on strength on the skates. Matthews beats Eichel (and just about anybody in the league) in that category hands down.

How about adjust nothing, because there's always an excuse.

"Adjustment for minutes...."
"If he wore a different jock strap..."
"If he cut his hair a little more, the ounces he loses makes him faster which correlate with his speed and release and if the hawk flies north and the win is due south, he scores like 10 more goals..."

Well how many 1st goal of the game did Matthews score? Or game winners for that matter?
