Will the Jets be better than the Leafs next season?

I believe there is a chance. The Jets were hampered by a poor schedule, many injuries and suspect coaching. On the other hand everything seemed to go perfect for the Leafs. It seems that we have more depth and seasoned tal not. Is is possible that we could surpass them next season?

Only if our starting goaltending is upgraded. Then it's possible and maybe probable.

If I had to guess, I'd say no. PoMo still has lots of new excuses left to use, and will have next year plus whatever his extension will grant him to burn through.

Seriously, there's a chance. As long as we can get at least average goaltending. If we also get an upgrade on LHD in addition to that, then the odds increase even more.

I would agree, as long as personnel decisions are reasonable which is possible, since we are losing Thorburn and Pav. If Maurice makes average personnel decisions we should be better than the Leafs.

All depends on offseasons. A healthy jets team with league average goaltending would have been on par or better than the leafs this season. The leafs will continue to improve, they're a young talented team with great coaching and management. The jets are young and talented too, but coaching, injuries and goaltending sunk them this season.

Will we be better than the leafs? I don't know, but I don't see why the leafs would get worse. But for the jets, I honestly believe that with a healthy defence and good goaltending, we can be a dominant team. Offense is already lethal. League average goaltending would have gotten us into the playoffs this year, even with the injured defense.

We finished the season 19-10-3, so despite what people think, it wasn't just a last seven games thing. I believe they will be in the playoffs next year if the right moves are made (and they are small and obvious moves) and I believe that we could be better than the leafs.

But in the end, it really doesn't matter if we'll be better than them or not. I just want this team back in the playoffs as an annual playoff team.

As long as Maurice is coach, there is not a chance. Nothing is possible with Maurice as coach. Jets will make playoffs instantly when they get a decent coach.

Coaching-advantage Leafs
Offence-advantage Jets
Defense -if healthy, ad Jets
Goaltending-even with a UFA pickup, likely Leafs
PP-Leafs
PK-Leafs
Overall talent-Jets
So, if our talent can overcome the discrepancy in coaching, we could be better next season.

I would agree that PoMo is a far below average coach. I am just hoping that our talent can compensate for his many deficiencies?

If there's no changes to the coaching staff? No.

This would be entirely dependent on the UFA/trade pick up. Either they are better than Anderson or not.

Every category is Leafs except over all.
With same coaching staff highly unlikely

I'm a bit pessimistic too but I certainly think it can happen.

Habs fan coming in peace. From an outsider looking in, team health will determine a great deal since you guys got dinged hard this year. Otherwise, your goaltending needs to be addressed. I'm actually quite envious of your offensive talent.

As for being better than the Leafs, not sure about that, but I expect to see you guys in the playoffs next year.

The Jets need to be better than they were last year period.

I don't get the fascination with the Leafs. F them.

I'd say roughly equal, maybe slight edge to Toronto unless we get great goaltending.

I can say with no lack of hesitation, we get a Goalie, than yes or are team is healthier than theirs than yes. I don't wanna say they had a bad schedule but they where seriously injured and beaten any where in the season you look, but they have the most offensive talent in the league(not saying the best offence yet, but there Potential is tremendous), there Defense when healthy(Sure we need more Left side Defenseman Depth down the chart) is much better than Torontos and the Top line has about as much potential as our entire Offence(IMO). But when it comes to Goaltending there might be 1 or 2 options in FA that would top Anderson(Bishop is my favourite upon thee list).

What it comes down to is wether the Organization is serious about winning and if they are not to cheap and lazy to reel in some high end Free Agents, that's all this team needs to become a 95+ point team.

No goalie would flourish with the craptastic defensive play the team had this year.

We already win as much as the Leafs, just need to step up our blowing leads and then ultimately losing in OT/SO game.

I'm more concerned with being better than at least 3 other teams in the Central next year.

Not if we have the same coaching staff.

If we have the injury luck the leafs has this year then assuredly.

As an aside, is there anything better than watching leafs fans freak out over a playoff loss??

No, because poor schedules, injuries and games in hand for opponents is always a requirement for Jets seasons.

The only way I care is if we meet in the play-offs next year.

Can we just leave this kind of thing to the many insecure Leaf fans?

This is funny seeing as we had the exact same amount of wins as them this year. They managed to lose more games in extra time and shootouts. We are pretty darn close to them, and thats with a bad coach and no NHL starter. Not bad

Just another team who rebuilt and was worse then us years ago. Plenty of teams like that ahead of us now. Because we have a GM who thinks drafting is the only job a GM has
