question: what are the stars for on the helmets?

I just noticed this yesterday (and may have missed the reason), but what are the stars for on the helmets of NHL players?

The stars on the helmet are in memory of Chief Dennis Ryan, who passed away last week.

its just the rangers and its for Chief Ryan, the recently-deceased chief of security for the team.

Very nice move by the Leafs. Not my favourite team by a long shot, but a very classy thing to do.

I'm not sure that's what the Leaf's stars were for.

They showed a close-up of the Leafs' stars on Friday's game. JD said they came in to MSG and wanted to show their respects, too. Of course they could have had something else yesterday, but I assume they had the same stickers.

Wow. Didn't know that. I was at the game on Friday so I didn't see the broadcast. Nice gesture.

Another classy move was Pat Quinn going to the Funeral friday morning. Another thing mentioned on the broadcast friday night.
