There is a big step between CHL and AHL, even more for a small 18 years old D. Playoffs are not the time to give experience to players that are not ready for it. I think it is disrespecting Brouillette to think that Mete would be ready to replace him now with no experience in the AHL.

Negative is if this in any way leads to an extension for Sly and The Gang.
The reason the Ice Caps made the playoffs this year, according to Stéphane Leroux, has to do with changes brought in prior to the start of this season in respect of playoff qualification rules.

Leroux explained that if the same playoff qualification system had remained in place as in past years, the Ice Caps would not have made the playoffs yet again.

So, does Sly get a pass cause the governors made changes that ended up favoring his team?

After the AHL Board of Governors ruled on implementing this year's changes, one observer was skeptical and saw a major flaw:

Quote:
Somewhat lost in this mix is the fact that the “top four teams in each division ranked by points percentage (points earned divided by points available) will qualify for the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs.“

So no cross-over at all between divisions or conference in this instance and does give the Eastern Conference teams an edge in the fact they only need to avoid finishing in the bottom two of their division. It’s a system which looks reminiscent of junior hockey and doubtless there will be a situation where fifth place (or lower) teams in the Western Conference finish with a higher points percentages than those who qualify in the East.
https://ukhockeyfan.wordpress.com/20...and-alignment/

I wouldn't be to quick to give Sly credit, even if, like you, I'm happy the team is making it to the playoffs.

Lightning fan coming in peace.

What are the forward lines and defensive pairs expected to be for the Ice Caps in the series against the Crunch? Also, any help expected to come in from Juniors?

Yes, Dumont was made available from the Lightning at the end of the season. Bournival is healthy and played for the Crunch at the end of the season. The Crunch have one too many good centers at the moment but I'm pretty certain Dumont will draw in. Erne / Gourde / Conacher & McGinn / Peca / Condra are pretty set top two lines. Not sure what mix of Dumont, Froese, Richard, Vermin, Brett Howden, Bournival we'll see in the bottom six.

Just because Tampa is not in the playoffs and Toronto is, I was hoping to see St.John's face Toronto instead of Syracuse. To me, they are a favorite for the Calder cup...

Tough matchup ahead. But nothing is impossible. Matchups during the regular season wasn't as lopsided as it should have been.

The only one most of us expect to join the Ice Caps from Juniors is Noah Juulsen. But nothing has been reported or hinted at by any reporters (which could be because most, if not all are focused on the Habs).

The only other Hab in Juniors available is Will Bitten but we don't know if they will bring him in.

Sergachev and Addison are busy training and preparing for the Memorial Cup in Windsor.
Mete is still with London & McNiven is still with Owen Sound in the OHL Playoffs.
Bradley is still with Medicine Hat in te WHL Playoffs.

Thanks for info. Juulsen would be a nice add to your roster. For us its either Stephens (London) or Cirelli, Raddysh, & Cernak (Erie). Doubt any of them draw in ... maybe Stephens on the wing. This Crunch team is pretty stacked with the additions from Tampa.

Regardless of outcome, I think the Habs organization is just happy the team made the playoffs. Just the experience of being in pressure-packed games will do wonders for many of the Canadiens' prospects.

You are right. And I'm not happy with myself because I'm following the CHL Playoffs and more specifically Habs prospects. I've watched 3 of Bourque's games and am a fan of his.

I think with Bourque the "problem" is his team. Saint John is so ridiculously good this season that many people watching the Q playoffs haven't even bothered watching their first 2 round knowing they'll roll through teams. Guess being considered the best team in the CHL can be a curse when it comes to tracking prospects.

Surprised Scherbak isn't on the big boy team. I can remember some on our board wanting to pick him up back in '14. Not looking forward to playing against Farnham ... that dude's level of intensity borders on WWE style. De La Rose seems to have had a dissapointing year ... injuries?

De La Rose had a slow season up until the end. He picked it up and became a key reason to the Ice Caps' success in their playoff qualification. His defensive game was never in question, his offensive game was. We can now say he's picked that up. We all hope this is going to stick because he can be a very useful player for the Canadiens in the very near future.

Scherbak had a better year this year but last year (his first in the pros) he was riddled with injuries. He's a long-term project. He's not NHL ready even though he scored a highlight reel goal in his first NHL game earlier this year. Personally, if he spends another year or two in the AHL, I'll be fine with it if it means that when he does graduate to the majors, he'll be worth the patience. If he does stay in the AHL for another year or two, I want to see him challenging for an NHL spot in the meantime, which would indicate there is progress.

He went from 48 GP last year and being 8th in scoring on the team to playing 66 games this year and 3rd in scoring (with 3 NHL games in between with a goal).

I wouldn't be against that. But I think they feel him being around the team during the NHL playoffs will help him more because he's rubbing elbows with the big boys.

Good points but I also would love to see Big Mac play a few AHL playoff games. The IceCaps start playing Friday and Saturday so it would be awesome if he got to play those 2 games and then go back up.
Really don't see him getting into action in the NYR series so a few playoff games in the AHL would keep him sharp.

Go IceCaps GO
