This series is a classic example of coach overthinking things and then being stubborn to change what is causing the problems. Roll with what got you here. We can't score more than one goal and he wants to roll the dice on some sieve defenders who pinch in and get caught up ice. I don't get it.

Too bad Sedlak still isn't ready. It would have worked out with Calvert out if Sedlak could go back into the lineup.

We are in this, we are playing much better than the result would indicate, we just need Vezina Bob today and to score first and we will get on a roll! Hoping the rain holds off, heading to the plaza party for some loud mouth soup at 3. We can do this!
wait, 2 days ago we were losing in 5. what happened

I thought this note from today's 1st Ohio Battery's roundtable was pretty spot on

Quote:
What weakness or weaknesses of the Blue Jackets do you see the Penguins exposing through the first two games?

NV: That if they get the puck out of the zone quickly they can eliminate the Blue Jackets' forecheck while also getting numerous odd man rushes. I think that the CBJ are trying too hard to hit the Penguins. The Blue Jackets beat this Pens team in the regular season by just carrying the puck into the zone and playing with skill, not a hit-anything-we-see type of game

JS: ... It looks right now like the Jackets are pressing in the offensive zone, just trying to get pucks on net and hoping for chaos, but that’s playing into the strength of a Pittsburgh defense that is filling shot lanes and collapsing to the front of the net to clear rebounds away from Marc-Andre Fleury.
I'd love to see more o-zone entries carried in, and more of a straight-ahead-mentality when attacking the slot and net. Gotta find a way to create more chances from the center of the ice rather than toss the puck towards the net and hope for the best.

I'm still trying to process the last game. I think I probably have less hope than others here, due to Torts' hesitance to adapt.

To me, it was clear that the strategy focusing on hitting wasn't going to work after game 1, but it continued in game 2, and sounds like it will continue tonight. Forwards going for the hit instead of the puck have led to numerous odd man rushes, and the strategy seems to be the reason the series has gone so poorly. Has Torts not seen the obvious cause of all those odd man rushes and breakaways?

The Jackets need to play with speed and skill like they did earlier in the season- hitting is not what makes this team successful. They were 22nd in hits this year, that's not their game. It was for the past 3 years, but it's not this year, and it shouldn't be in the playoffs. They need to play more like the Pens, which is how they played in December. Stop focusing on "wearing them down" and focus on scoring goals. I really think they'll be swept if they continue in this direction.

If they win tonight, great. But I'm not getting my hopes up unless I see changes, starting with sitting Carlsson and Harrington. Go Jackets.

Is it fair to put Carlsson in this position? The guy just got to North America a couple weeks ago and played a few games in the AHL. Now, he's playing decent minutes in the NHL playoffs and expected to be on top of things with practically zero experience at this level.

All this time I thought the game was here! Is the Shrine circus in town?

I realize our offense overall has been impotent, but feel like Andy is being totally wasted lining up with two gelded offensive players. Right now Wild Bill would have trouble hitting the open net and I have even less confidence in Korpse. In this case there would be little to lose in playing Milano over him.

Good points.

Wild Beel needs to be sat down for the rest of the playoffs. He's a soft, disengaged sorry excuse for an NHLer. 47 straight games without a goal and is still in the line up. My gut tells me that this is not a Torts call.

It's been 27 years since an Ohio team last beat a Pittsburgh team in the postseason - when the Reds beat the Pirates in the NLCS on their way to a World Series title.

If the Blue Jackets are gonna break that drought something's gotta give.

Less hitting and more skating like we did during the streak. Go Jackets.

I'd make them shoot the puck as soon as they got to within 5 feet of the hash marks and crash the net. I know #10 can't do it, but the rest of them can.

Werenski manages to one time or take super quick shots all the time and he is a threat every time the puck comes to him because of this. The rest of the boys would be wise to follow this model.

Take as much thinking out of the game as possible. When a team is in as deep an offensive slumber as the CBJ have been for as long as they've been, taking the brain out of it is probably a good idea.

Last play-off series against the Pens pretty much the entire building was CBJ. Pens fans were not noticeable. Hopefully that is true this year.

I hope they attack the net in waves. Get the puck on net and follow it in.

And as Ty Conklin would say, this game is critical!!

It's midnight in Vienna. Train to Prague in the morning. Missed first 2 games. Tired but geeked up to see nationwide and the CBJ defend home ice again!

Brian Boucher makes his triumphant return to Columbus.

And why in the **** is there somebody wearing a Red Wings jersey behind Jody?
