What? Hossa played a huge part in the Hawks success. He was a core player on a team that won 3 Cups, that isn't riding anyone's coat tails...

In no run was Hossa a top-4 player on his team, that's getting carried. Hossa's game doesn't elevate in the playoffs and he's a passenger most of the time.

2015: Toews, Kane, Keith and Crawford all did the heavy lifting
2013: Kane, Toews, Bickell and Crawford ahead of him
2010: Kane, Toews, Keith, Sharp, Buff, Seabrook...

For a guy who gets paid nearly 8m a year to be a 4th/5th/6th/7th best player on multiple cup runs? yeah he's riding coat tails.

In 2010 there was even talk about the Smythe for him. And he was key in 13, too.

Links? or is this after 1 series/game? Because there was 0 case for him at the end of either playoff runs. Not sure how you'd have any argument for Hossa against Kane/Toews 2010 or Crawford/Kane in 2013 but ok.

No it does not. Hell of a player, and a second cup is great on the resume, but he needs 5+ more years of being one of the best wingers in the game statistically. Not to mention, there will always be the fact that he played 3rd fiddle (at best) behind 71 and 87 on those 2 hypothetical cup teams. And he needs more hardware too, a single Masterton isn't cutting it.

He has a ways to go, but it's possible.

Hossa - 1309GP 525G 609A 1134P
Recchi - 1652GP 577G 956P 1553P

Sundin - 1346GP 564G 785A 1349P

One of these things is not like the others. He has a significant amount of work to do to catch those guys.

LOL. It doesn't require much to make the HHOF in your world, eh? Kessel has no (good) personal awards and doesn't even have 300 goals and 700 points yet. Let's wait until he hits 500 and 1000 before we even start a thread like this okay?

I wonder how many forwards have made the Hall of Fame without getting a single Hart Trophy vote ever.

When you put it like that... I guess Phil's got a bit more work to do then!

If he wins the Cup and the Conn Smythe, gets back into top10 scoring for a season or two the plot will thicken.

If he can do that and get a Richard and/or 500 career goals, then he's in, imo.

That's a lot to do though...

Did Kessel retire?

He has some work to do but I suppose it's possible. He doesn't play a hard game so he may be able to play longer due to that. His passing game has been criminally underated and he can still score goals albiet that dropped off some this year. He's also an American born player so depending on his point totals at the end of his career he could be in the conversation as one of the best American born players.

Doubtful but you never know.

It could happen. Phil is the kind of player who will continue to thrive in the new NHL. Who knows?

If he was never a Leaf 2 cups would get him in, given he was the scapegoat to an extent for Burke making a bad trade I'd say he needs 3 cups now.
What is this supposed to mean?

Sundin all time rankings.

Regular season
#50 ppg

#28 points

#22 goals

#53 games played (great longetivity)

Playoffs stats

91 games 38 goals 82 points

Best season
80 games played 47 goals 114 points

This season is ranked #110th best ever in points.

C'mon how is that not HOF worthy...or am i missing sarcasm or something?

Kessel needs a bit more to be considered.
Also I'm a bit puzzled over the fact that posters on HF on a regular basis thinks that HHOF inductions are purely based on NHL careers, disregarding international games.

No. but...He made Pens over the Top team offensively. Especially in Play-off which is his game and no many men now or 10 years back are better than him. Actually... He could be one of the greatest "secondary" players in history of the game.
