I got really lucky and my work schedule (15 hours forward) let me watch all but about half the first period. I'm being ridiculously superstitious this year so I won't say too much, but you guys in the stands did me proud -- I had my phone at half volume and it was enough for a couple of my students at Chikami Junior High to come out and ask me what on Earth was going on.
I made an excuse for them so that they could skip a little bit of class to watch the last few minutes of the game. When I asked them what they thought about the fans, they said 「それのようなものを見たことがないの」, which means "I've never seen anything like it". They were stunned. Over here, the crowd gets together and sing songs melodically in big groups -- the utter chaos of our arena was just mind-blowing to them.
They had all kinds of questions, and the more they realized just how huge this game was (Eighth seed? Against a first seed that's won three championships in a decade? Sweep?), the more excited they got. I wish so badly that I could have recorded it when they started yelling "SWEEP, SWEEP, SWEEP!!!" as they swept up during cleaning time.
A very good outcome & effort, indeed. Glad they get to rest for a little bit, and hopefully don't lose sight of the fact that there is much more work to be done and a long way to go yet. For now though, the moment can be thoroughly enjoyed & celebrated, and deservedly so!
Well guys and gals. That was a hell of a series by your team. Absolute domination from top to bottom. Good luck through the rest of the playoffs. Hope you guys win the Cup. I absolutely don't want the Pens to win it, and I think the Preds are the only team in the West that can compete with them right now.
Ride this wave all the way through and bring that silver chalice to music city.
