They say he's closest to Toews (Blackhawks.)

So this guy is like Toews? It can't hurt to take a stab at a guy like that, better than a veteran to log jam young guys who need ice. Rather have them compete with other young guys who are working hard to prove themselves worthy. Maybe he can push Sheahan out the door?

Opportunity to win? Sure.
Opportunity for playing time and for cash? I don't think so.

If the Wings deal Tatar/Nyquist for a D (something getting a 6'5" 215lb stud winger would allow them to do, he could step right in Detroit's top 6.

If he's really good, Detroit's top line could be scary huge and scary talented.

He couldn't crack Sweden's top league, doubt he could walk right into any team's top 6 next year. Would love to have him though, but he would definitely need some time in the AHL

While that sounds fantastic, we've been writing the script of trading Tatar/Nyquist for a defenseman for a few years now. I'll believe it when I see it.

So, if a magical trade of a Detroit drafted, long term player like Tatar or Nyquist happens then they can pay this kid? And then he get slotted in the top 6 over Helm or Abdelkader?

Well, hope he enjoys Nashville of Chicago.

Either way, rumours are he'll sign with a team before Wednesday night when he leaves North America.

An excerpt:

"The 2017 NHL draft is June 23-24 in Chicago. The Wings are guaranteed to pick no worse than seventh overall, and enter the April 29 draft lottery with 6.7% odds of picking first overall."

That's not even true. Detroit can pick as low as 10th, if all 3 of the top picks are won by teams from 8-15.

The sports media in this town...alternating softballs and inaccuracies...

"Realistically, two or three can make our team out of camp, but I'm hoping five, six, seven of these players at some point in time next year can either get an opportunity to get their feet wet and play some NHL games as they go along with their development. Or, 20, 30, 40 games in, they'll do what Anthony Mantha and Nick Jensen have done. There's an injury and they come up, get an opportunity, grab a job and never come back."
Mantha (that I knew) and Jensen won't be sent down again, confirmation right here!

It's a great thing. I hope when he is moved to an advisor role he continues to do it. It is probably his biggest strength, IMO.

19. It is very rare that players reach out to me to promote their coaches, but one did last week. He texted on behalf of AHL Grand Rapids coach Todd Nelson, who was in Edmonton before Todd McLellan. The Griffins are up 2–0 on Milwaukee in the first round of the playoffs. Anthony Mantha took big strides under Nelson. He felt Nelson deserved more “buzz” around his name.

Speaks volume that Mantha would help brag a coach.

Could one try and trade something for Galchenyuk? I mean, his value must have gone a bit down given how he hasn't been given top lines center duties, so why not give it a shot. Could be a potential steal if the captain can teach him how to resolve his defensive duties.

Unless their team is still in the PO's, I suspect most GM's do trips like these, regardless of whether they have a scouting background.

Other teams scouts can actually see that he can't win a single puck battle.

Chicago I think could be a better opportunity for both playing time and cash (on his next deal). They are all about giving low cost young players a shot.

They try a lot of different guys with Toews and Kane. I mean they got Panik a 20 goal season straight off the trash heap.

Hopefully we are the most enticing option after them, all for giving a guy like this a shot.

Isn't Holland the one Hakan credits for actually zeroing in on Z? I think Hakan was there to watch someone else and Holland ended up watching Z and pointed Hakan at him. Might be thinking of someone else, though.

Holland's scouting ability is supposed to be very good, though.

I believe that was Nill. Holland was the one that listened to Hakan on Datsyuk and told him to keep him on his list and went with him when Hakan brought him up on draft day.

Hakan usually watches a guy three times, Datsyuk he only saw twice, but on description with Holland to argue why he wanted to keep him in mind and on their good player list Holland likes what he heard and said keep him on the list.
