Why would any player come here over those said teams?

Because he's not an nhler yet and his opportunity is probably better here than Chicago. Nashville is the most attractive shot for him though imo, opportunity and good team around him. Oh and he grew up a wings fan apparently.

Different players value different things, and to a certain extent, a given visit or interaction with a team might just leave the impression of being a better fit, independent of the "on paper" factors of current franchise success or ice time.

While I can certainly see the pitch that the Blackhawks would sell - and likely be very persuasive with - maybe the kid loves the new arena, and just happens to have a better time being wined and dined during his time in Detroit than in Chicago. Stranger things have happened.

Or maybe The Swedish Mafia makes him an offer he can't refuse.

He supposedly grew up a Wings fan, And Nashville and Detroit do have quite a few Swedes on them plus Chicago is Chicago it's been reported that he visited Detroit, Nashville and Chicago and he supposedly will sign with one of those teams in the near future.

Not really.

Lately Jimmy's played well but has been extremely injury prone, but prior to that he's had several good seasons as an NHL starter. Mrazek has not done that yet.

And I'm not saying that because I'm on Jimmy's side in the inevitable goalie wars here. I have no horse in the race. It's much better for the team if Mrazek gets it together and becomes their starter. It's been very disappointing that he hasn't yet when the job was ripe for the taking.

The bottom line is it's made the goaltending decision less clear than it should be for the Wings.

Good year in 26 games is nowhere near enough to criticize one but praise the other. His past 3 seasons were garbage. I actually thought he played like 35-40 and he actually had a good year. But small sample size

No news on Ejdsell?

The article I posted earlier said he would sign by Wednesday of last week (fooled me!).

Believe it or not, players don't make big career decisions solely based on a team's current position in the standings or the perceived status of their prospect pool.

Most do because of money and quality of life, which is why players tend to gravitate to New York, Los Angeles, Toronto etc...

NHL issues list of expansion-exempt players

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl-issues-list-of...ayers-1.741493

Franzen and Vitale are exempt. Not ground-breaking news, but still.

So you think players want to come to a city like Detroit? And yes I was born and raised in the burbs here. To a team that is not going to be a contender for some time, And is known for sinking kids in the minors for years. Over a city like Chicago who has a good team, has a GM that does not play games, Likes to let good young players play. there is no good reason for a young free agent to want to come here. As bad as that sounds it's the truth, It was well no guys wanted to play for Babs. Well that was not it. Babs saying I want players, Kenny saying well we kicked the tires but just does not cut it.

Last year at a Michigan game, I overheard a Red Wings official discussing with a Stars scout that they had a free agent decline their offers because Detroit didn't have a mall suitable for the players wife. So all kinds of factors go into it.

I was reading about Scheifele growing up a wings fan, about playing at the Joe where he idolized Yzerman as a kid... then I looked up how long he was under contract and cried on the inside.

Can't blame the kid, if that's where he thinks is a best fit. After being under the radar for so long, they pulled off a huge trade in the off-season, and just made the conference finals. Perhaps the franchise now starts to get a bit more momentum (and credit for the moves that have panned out).

I was roaming the Nashville boards about a week ago. And they seemed really confident. Not shocked or mad and what we only heard about him once when he said he was interested?
