Flames are screwed. Wideman effect will live on indefinitely. If Wideman wins again, I can't even imagine the grudge against the team. Thank goodness Wideman's contract ended this season though at the very least.

It may be something where since it occurred as part of Wideman's employment by the Flames he has to name them.

A deliberate action of a person caused harm to another which took away potential for future earnings. I won't comment on the amount, but on the surface, I think he has a viable case. This isn't a case of "it goes with the job that you might get injured".

Would this be Canadian or American jurisdiction?

No chance he's getting that much in Canada.

NHLPA needs to fully support Wideman here.

Yakupov should sue the linesman that got him injured too ... **** that happens on the ice should stay on the ice.

10M dollars... yeh right. Cant let anyone set a precedent like this.

What happens on the ice stays on the ice as far as I'm concerned. Therefore I'm against this and hope he loses.

I have no idea if he will win, but it is certainly a sad situation for Henderson. And Wideman too if it actually wasn't intentional.

I imagine it'll take the sting off not being able to officiate anymore.

What about the future earnings he's going to lose?

The man can't do his job due to the crosscheck.

I'm fine with this if players can sue the Refs union for creating a dangerous workspace through inconsistent and negligent enforcement of rules regarding headshots, hits from behind, etc.

A linesman deliberately injured Yakupov, when did this happen?

Hmm Henderson looked fine in that game didn't he? Like he finished reffing the game? Didn't realize he was out since then.

No idea what the hell happened with Wideman. Have to think it was a culture issue with the Flames. That team seems to have a disregard for anyone's well being and selfishly likes to take out their frustrations by making dirty plays.

I don't see it that way. He likely won't get $10M, that's their opening salvo. But Wideman's deliberate actions caused severe injuries and took away opportunity for the guy to earn a salary and do what he loves. He most definitely has a viable case IMO, at least on the surface.

You clearly didn't see what Wideman did to him.

Henderson's career is over due to a shot he never should have taken, and had no expectation of taking.

Ridiculous. Maybe if this was a player on player incident I could see your perspective, but a player attacking an official (which this was if Wideman did it on purpose) is absolutely not a part of the game nor has it ever been. By your logic, a player could stab another player or official with a broken stick and its would be "what happens on the ice stays on the ice", and not a criminal issue. Ridiculous.

Not sure what this quote accomplishes, but it's a pretty heartless one. How can he afford to live for lost future income?
