Didnt know about the concussion and what he has gone through since.

Still dont agree with all these suing.. Thats so American.
How else is he supposed to get what he deserves? The goodness of Wideman's heart? The goodness of the NHL?

I'm Canadian through and through, but that's bs. Suing someone who has caused you to become physically and mentally unable to work is not "so American". You are suggesting that this is unfounded, which isn't the case at all. If someone made it so you couldn't work, would it be "so American" of you to sue them for lost income, to cover medical expenses, etc?

That hit wasn't part of the deal that he signed on for. He is a n official, not a player. It was not an accident but quite deliberate. The ice surface is not some sacred place that has super-legal status.

I hope he wins.

Assuming he didn't go to a "Dr. Nick" style of doctor, he certainly has a case, though it will be settled for less money.

I'm against any contact in the game that has intent to injure. The physicality of them game is meant to slow a team down and help move the puck the other way, win board battles.

He may have a case, but it's all going to come down to what is presumed in his contract as acceptable risk for his job.

Officials get attacked about as often as Canadian franchises win Stanley Cups.

Intent has to be there for most tort laws, didnt bother reading the thing again so i dont know what exactly hes suing for but it might be hard to prove. Watch wideman counter with something silly like defamation or something lol

This could open up a big bag of problems for missed calls and stuff tho . Also wow how much do refs and linesman make?

That's the gray area he'll have to build his case on. Didn't the NHL agree Wideman was not deliberate in his actions when he appealed? Because if they did, the Flames and Wideman can point to that decision and claim it was an accident.

You're right, he should have just gone on welfare instead as he's unable to work

Wideman ended someones career by assaulting him, he should get his pants sued off him

Wow, that's a lot of scratch, even for an NHLer.

No matter how this plays out, definitely a lesson to players that refs are the last guys you should be venting your frustration on. No one wants to get dragged into a battle like this.

Classy of him to wait until the Flames were eliminated, assuming that is the reason for the timing.

Didn't realize Henderson's injury was that bad. Wideman was diagnosed with a concusion too so I wonder how that will play out. Not defending Wideman but I really do believe the concussion to have played a roll in what he did.

Hopefully Henderson recovers.

If someone, out of stupidity, caused you to not be able to do your job, along with making your life a living hell of pain and discomfort, you may feel differently. We have no idea what this guy has gone through but two neck surgeries and loss of his livelihood is enough for me to think he's not being unreasonable.

It would be great to see Wideman have his countersuit thrown out and be liable for attorneys' fees for filing a frivolous counter-suit. As well as his attorneys being sanctioned for filing such a frivolous suit as well.

Sadly, I *almost* can't agree with that.

In reality, Henderson probably has a case. Didn't realize what he is/has dealt with.

Part of the ****ing game. Soldiers aren't suing the Federal government for lost limbs are they?

Wideman was also super dazed after that hit.

The NHL already ****ed up the suspension case for wideman too. Ref needs to be compensated via the ref Union and call it a day. Don't drag the player into it

There is no assumed risk of getting attacked as an official.

Hit by a random player by accident? Sure.

Hit by a puck? Sure.

Outright attacked and targeted? Nope.

Right, but Wideman's going to argue it was an accident and he has a successful appeal to back him up on that. Unless I'm wrong that his appeal was successful.

This has already been deemed an accident twice by independent arbitrators. Nice try though.

It was successful. Arbitration cut it from 20 games to 10 games.

Good.

He ended his career and put him through painful surgery and rehab. Screw Wideman.
