...Assuming no pick trading because no guarantee that the player you traded to pick would be picked by another team.

For the Sens I'd say the Methot trade worked out pretty well, Methots been a quality top 4 dman since he arrived and a steady partner for our superstar dman, while I'm sure Columbus is also happy with their captain .

To COL:
Erik Johnson
Jay McClement
Duncan Siemens (Pick - ignore this)

To STL:
Chris Stewart
Kevin Shattenkirk
Ty Rattie (Pick - ignore this)

Yes the Blues have neither Stewart or Shatty left but at the time when Stewart was traded for Miller and Ott the Blues looked primed to be a real contender. Ott stayed on a couple years and the Blues made it to the WCF. Shatty became one of the best offensive D-men in the league and getting Sanford who has played regularly with the Blues the end of the season / into the playoffs has paid off. Who knows how he will turn out but the Blues were great for years and given lots of potential in large part due to this trade.

Phil Kessel to the penguins.

Might be the best trade for both teams.

Penguins got a cup

Leafs got pieces to get their starting goalie, and finished last place thanks to not having kessel. Where would this leafs team be without Matthews?

Or this.

Or half a season of UFA Beauchemin for Gardiner and Lupul... If only we didn't sign Lupul to that contract.

I disagree. Our best trade was definitely Rundblad for (the pick to select) Tarasenko.

Palmieri for a 2nd and 3rd is probably the answer for NJ. Got a guy who has produced like a 1RW the last two years for two low picks.

Hall for Larsson is the other, but NJ obviously had to give up something valuable.

Probably the most underrated, though, has to be Gelinas for Colorado's third, which will be the first pick of the round. Gelinas is garb, and not even in the NHL, as I'm sure the Avs have come to realize.

Shero is a god!

I didn't think that would count because OP said "no pick trading" because there is no guarantee who would be picked if the team that traded the pick would have picked the same player.

Both Shero and Rutherford have made some great trades for the Pens the past decade so I have to say that I have been really happy with most of the deals. Most people will point to Kessel (which was great). Shero getting Matt Niskenan and James Neal for Alex Gologoski was crazy at the time and looks even better now. And I was happy with GMJR flipping Neal for Horny. Getting Trevor Daley for Rob Scuderi as well as Schultz for a 3rd rounder were both really smart in season trades last year.

You cant talk about best sens deals in the last decade without talking about Turris for Rundblad.

Easily the best deal we've made recently

Isles have 3 candidates that come to mind.

1. Isles trade Robert Nilsson, Ryan O'Marra, and 1st (Alex Plante) to the Oilers for Ryan Smyth.

Smyth wasn't an Islander for long, and he didn't have a massive impact, but this trade single handedly got Isles to the playoffs in 06-07 as they made it by 1 point.

2. Isles trade Ville Pokka, Anders Nilsson, TJ Brennan to Blakchawks for Nick Leddy

No explanation needed here. Isles traded one decent prospect, a backup goalie, and career AHLer for a legit top pairing defenseman who excels in all zones and has yet to hit the prime years typical for defenseman.

3. Isles trade Griffin Reinhart to Oilers for 16th overall (Mathew Barzal) and 33rd overall (Anthony Beauvillier)

This one can't be determined yet, but after Beau's 19 year old season as a rookie, a 1:1 swap of Beau for Reinhart would still be an exceptional trade and a steal for the Isles. Throw in Barzal who is one of the NHL's top 10 prospects and it could turn out to be one of the more lopsided trades in all of the NHL over the last 10 years.

As of right now, I'd rank 2 as the best, 3 as the second best with the potential to be the run away best trade in the next 3 years, and 1 as the third best.

Can't believe a Preds fan hasn't brought up the Erat for Forsberg trade - the worst deal in the history of the Washington Caps and a candidate for the worst TDL deal ever.

Luke Schenn for James Van Riemsdyk comes to mind right away. Bonafide win for us on that, JVR has been one of my favourite Leafs over the last few years.

Frederik Andersen for a 1st and 2nd.

Phil Kessel trade (yes it was a win-win)

The Sharp and Versteeg swindles that helped build the first cup team fall just outside the 10 year cutoff. So, for the Hawks that leaves the Cam Barker for Kim Johnsson and Nick Leddy deal. Even considering that Johnsson suffered a career ending injury ten games into his tenure, that deal still turned out to be gold. Honorable mention to Skille/Pacan for Frolik/Salak. And also the Morin for Panik deal.

The best trade I know off is the one with Gomez and Mcdonaugh, absolut robbery. For my Penguins, in terms of pure value its Neal/Niskanen for Goligoski, a robbery as well. But best trade in terms of how it worked out (for both teams actually) was the Kessel trade.
