I'd love him but for me it's gotta be kane as the center piece. Same term left same risk for both teams trading from a position of strength. 1 guaranteed year of fowler limits his value to me. But he would be a hell of an addition.

The logic from a Ducks pov for moving Fowler would be saving/freeing up money. Kane doesn't make sense as the return because of it.

Agreed. Do you send nylander or reinhart their way for one year of fowler though? These are our 3 main pieces. Do you trade our first and all that team control for 1 year fowler and hope he doesn't command 7 million? Do you pay him more than risto if he asks for it?

Kane at 50% + a sweetener?

They probably just keep Fowler and let him walk as UFA I guess

I think Anaheim is going to want futures. They've got futures coming up now (Ritchie, Theodore, Montour) and they'll want to re-stock.

Agree. If Heiskanen and Makar are gone by when the Sabres pick, move the pick for Fowler.

If Heiskanen and Makar are gone when the Sabres pick, I'm good with moving the 1st for Fowler and Kane for Tanev or Brodin. Resets the D in two moves.

Fowler - Ristolainen
McCabe - Tanev/Brodin
Antipin - Bogosian
x Gorges

In

Vet top 6 forward such as a Justin Williams(2-3 year deal)
Hanifan
Antipin
4th line vet with good speed and PK abilities
4-5-6 blueliner via UFA
Sign Peterson
Lehner and Girgensons get QO to prove thier long term value to the team

Top 6 - Eichel, ROR, Okposo, UFA, one of Bailey, Baptiste or Nylander) and maybe Rodrigues??
Bottom 6 - Larsson, Foligno, Carrier, Girgensons, Gionta and vet for 4th line

Defense - Risto, McCabe, Bogo, UFA, Antipin, Guhle and Hanifan

Goalie - Lehner & Ullmark
Oshie as others have mentioned would be a great addition.
What do people think of Pacioretty? Changes coming to Montreal.

The biggest issue with the roster is the D. Fedun/Falk/Gorges are not NHL players. Bogo didn't play like an NHL starter. We have

X - Risto
McCabe - X
X - Bogo

Some possibilities to fill in the X's:
- Tanev (RD)
- Alzner (LD)
- Hanifin (LD)
- Guhle (LD)
- Antipin (RD)

Interested.

But the price tag would be too much for me.

I do think Montreal will be re-tooling shortly.

We need to get an elite winger for Jack this off season.
It's over pay in UFA or pay the price in a trade.

Oshie
Pacioretty
MacKinnon
JT
Toffoli

Ditch gorges and I'm very comfortable with fedun in a 7th dman role. Falk was fine in a pinch.

I am still on board with getting the Caps duo in FA. Alzner and Oshie would likely cost $12 mil in cap. We currently spend nearly 15 mil on Ennis, Moulson and Bogosian. If the new GM can move both Ennis and Moulson using our excess second and third rounders or a winger prospect then I definitely would like to see Oshie and Alzner in here.

Alzner-Risto
McCabe-Bogo
X-X
Gorges

Falk in Rochester. Those two spots on the third pair can be Guhle, Antipin, or UFA signing. We could even acquire a better dman that bumps down Bogo to the third pairing. Either way, signing Alzner in UFA makes this team better then trading our first for a D or Kane for a D. Signing Alzner and Oshie improves the D and allows the Sabres to move Kane for a D. Imagine trading Kane+ for Brodin if we can sign Alzner and Oshie.

Brodin-Risto
Alzner-McCabe
X-Bogo

Now that looks like a damn good D corps to me. I know McCabe would be on his off hand but I'd rather play him as RD2 then slide McCAbe to the third pairing and keep Bogo in the top 4. UFA shouldn't be looked at as a detriment. Teams make UFA signings that pay huge dividends often, yes there are massive failures like a Leino or Richards but there are quality fas signed each summer that help their team big time.

Nope. Which is why Murray wouldn't give up the 8th pick(Nylander) to begin with.

The Sabres should not be comfortable with signing two players like Alzner and Oshie to long term deals. I just can't see it.

The Sabres already have a multitude of players on long(ish) term deals like ROR, Okposo, Risto, and soon to be Eichel, with Reinhart as a possibility as well.

I know the Sabres need at least one solid to good forward going into next year, but does that mean giving oshie 6 over 7, minimum?

I agree, but I would take Stoner to make it work. Is that and a 2nd/3rd rd pick enough for Anaheim? I would think so (if they already believe in Theodore, Montour, etc.)

Whether it's a Kane + pick for Fowler and Stoner, or a 1st for Fowler and Kane + pick for Brodin...either way if that's the end result it's a huge improvement. Probably best case scenario.

Keep things simple..just un-Disco the lines from within..

Erod - Eichel - Okposo
Carrier - ROR - Girgensons
Kane - Reinhart - Bailey/Baptiste/Fasching
Folingo - Larsson - Bailey/Baptiste/Fasching
Des/Nylander in AHL

Bogo - Risto
McCabe - Antipin
Guhle/Gorges - Falk

And if you can, trade Kane for a LHD that pushes Guhle into the AHL. Sign one/two 7 RHD UFA (Fedun+??) if you can since Bogo is going to get hurt at some point anyway.

The perceived 'weakness' in the top-6 is off-set by the strength of the bottom-6.

We don't *need* to. And those guys are all going to have ridiculous pricetags (save maybe Oshie). What we *need* to do is address our defense and lack of quality depth. Nylander will be the skilled winger everyone's clamoring for in due time. He may even be ready next season (it's not a sure thing, and I'm not penciling him into the line-up yet, but it's well within the realm of possibility).

This put simply is an idealler than ideal scenario. Perfect.

I don't care who is available or who is gone in the draft it is highly unlikely that whoever they pick impacts the team in the next 3 years as much as these guys - if ever.

Unfortunately In these deals we're giving up more than most expect.

If Anaheim go far without Fowler then I guess they are more open to trading him but will want futures. My offer would be something Nylander based. Don't worry about the term in the same way you don't worry about the term as when trading for ROR. Offer Fowler what he is worth in the role he wants - he signs. More than Risto to be our so called 1D? So be it...

Likewise if the Canuck move Tanev its for futures. I'd offer something based around Tanev for our 1st.

The wild situation is a strange one - I think they take the expansion draft hit on the chin & accept whoever they lose is gone. So I don't see a trade here.

Following these moves I hold on to Kane next season until the tdl & Try to move him for futures to help replenish the loss of Nylander +1st then.

TJ Oshie is being overrated due to shooting percentage in a contract year.

I probably only have to go a year to find Layne trashing the annual Oshie no-show in the playoffs.

I like Oshie because of his skill, and his style of play which I think meshes very well with Eichel and the way he plays/thinks the game. I don't even know how many goals/points he's had this year quite honestly.

I try to evaluate players based on the way they play the game more so than how many points they get.

As regards signing more wingers... Really?!

Wingers are interchangeable in the majority of cases if you have a strong center spine. We are already paying four wingers combined nearly 21m going into next season with a glut of young guys ready to step in - some of whom can't due to congestion on the roster.

Why on earth do we need to be looking at top dollar wingers when we have this situation along with gaping holes on defence?

Maybe but I don't think so because the cost issue is there going forward. Whether Kane is at full or 50% cost he is still going to cost a ton when he signs his next deal. That's the reason they are supposedly looking to trade Fowler in the first place.

Put it this way, would you give up an asset of Fowler's value for 1 year of Evander Kane? I imagine if the Ducks trade him its going to be for a young team controlled player or a combo of prospects and picks. Think of guys like Guhle or Nylander as an example of what they're probably looking for. In fact, prior to the expansion draft, that would be a perfect addition for the Ducks (since they're expansion draft exempt).
