Did that Avs Eberle speculation come from Dreger? Dreger is flakey and I don't consider him a real insider so hopefully it's just hot air.

I wouldn't mind a 50 point winger but lets not waste our assets on it right now unless he's 5 years younger.

okay. there's one trade now that I want to happen, more than the Duchene one: Eklund's Galchenyuk for Marc Staal and a pick. would make my day.

Haha I seen that, but it's not on his blog anymore. If I remember right he wrote it right along with Minny being after him, like Brodin/Dumba then Marc Staal right along side it.

Hossa confirmed he won't play next season. I hope this isn't the end of his career, it would be such a sad way to go.

Yeah that sucks, as I actually thought Hossa might be one of those players to actually play until he was 40 while still being effective.

I don't buy for a second that Hossa has a legitimate allergy besides the allergy of playing for $1m per season.

A-freakin-men. This was always going to happen the second he signed that contract. Something was going to come up as soon as his salary got down to 1M per, he wouldn't retire but he wouldn't play either.

Would be interesting if the NHL was able to dig up medical records and see if the Hawks are lying about this.

I believe he just wanted to retire, so Hawks made up this allergy thing so they can put him on LTIR, and they can save the cap space.

I'm kinda hoping that this works for the Hawks because you need some balls to even propose this.

I was saying earlier that I admire their chutzpah, at least. But yeah, this is as obvious as it gets.

Type 4 Hypersensititivy most likely instead of the Type 1 you treat with a Reactin or Allegra. He's probably having to take some nasty drugs like corticosteroids and immunosuppresants that act on other parts of your body outside of just skin.

Regular use of those drugs can cause some ugly side effects too. It's possible that he does have that, and if so, it could just be an incredibly fortuitous break for the Hawks and not a conspiracy.

Yeah I was just being cheeky.

If it is in fact legit, man that is Chicago luck if I've ever see it.

I kinda agree with some of the posters on the main board, it's almost to stupid to be fake. But we'll see if it's legit or not I'm sure. Hope Hossa doesn't have to go out like that.

I'm sure it's not fake but I bet it's something he's been dealing with a while and just so happens this is the best time to step away.

That's what I'm guessing. Something that's probably very annoying and painful if untreated, but he could play through it if he wanted, just like countless other NHLers playing through something.

Difference being he turns 39 next year, Chicago needs the cap space, and his salary dropped from $7.9M to $4M last year, and now $1M this upcoming season.

I'm sorry, something still stinks about all this. WAY too coincidental.

Honestly, I wish the league just figured out some kind of compromise, like a "retirement buyout" so we don't have to keep guys like Chris Pronger show up on NHL payrolls long after they've departed the game. This perpetual LTIR stuff is just embarrassing.

There does need to be a better way to punish teams for handing out contracts that clearly take a player long beyond the point of usefulness. If you get old enough as a hockey player, you WILL develop a nagging injury somewhere. It's a brutal game on your body. LTIR is a really gaping loophole for getting out of deals that were stupid even when they were signed.

I wonder why expansion draft thread has been closed that quickly.

I don't understand people complaining that GMGM than this or that. He could do better in some situation? Probably yes, but remember that he not only need to fiil up NHL team but also AHL so guys like Nosek are also needed. Second thing there is salary cap and he is almost at cap level so he couldn't take all the contracts he would like because he would exceed cap limit. I think he has done pretty good job especially with all draft picks he has right now.

According to his own words in various Slovak media he's been dealing with it for four years. Things worsened after the World Cup, he needed to take strong meds that you aren't supposed to take for long because of side effects. And even with those meds things only got better temporarily.
