Freddy Meyer Signs An Extension

Found this on Orange and black.net and figured i share it

This should tell you where Freddie stands...I'm assuming it's an NHL contract at this point, not a two-way deal. He's obviously staying with the big club.

FLYERS SIGN DEFENSEMAN FREDDY MEYER
TO CONTRACT EXTENSION

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed 5'10", 190-pound defenseman Freddy Meyer to a two-year contract extension, according to club Assistant General Manager Paul Holmgren. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

"This is his third season with us and we feel that he has developed real nicely," said Holmgren in making the announcement. "We think that he is a big part of the future of our hockey team.

Please do not post entire articles, and post a link.

Also, other message boards are not valid sources. If there isn't a valid source on this by morning (since it's a minor signing I don't expect it to be big news on the Flyers page, also it's a Friday night) I'm going to have to lock/delete this thread.

Just saw it on the tsn ticker. I'm happy that they've shown commitment to Freddy so hopefully when Rico and Johnsson are healthy, Therien takes a seat.

That's good. I like his defensive plays, and I think he can turn into a good top four defenseman.

I agree.

even Jones has looked better then Therien, so once everyone gets back, we shouldn't see Therien anymore.

So far I would say that he has been one of the best surprises of the season.

Hopefully this signals the offical end of Therien. Hopefully.

I pegged Meyer as trade bait along the lines of Bruno St. Jacques and Jim Vandermeer, but they wouldn't give him a new contract if they didn't plan on keeping him.

not really. it may make him easier to trade as i doubt he is getting more than league min, is it a 1 way deal?

Yes, it's a one-way deal, starting next season. He's still on the 2-way the rest of this season.

Bruins fan here-

Freddy is a hell of a guy. We went to school together (I'm from NH). He was actually my girlfriends 1st kiss .

B@stard.

Seriously though, stand-up guy. Wish he was in Black and Gold.

Check this out...

http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/news_...e=fantasy_news

FredEx made it to #12 on TSN's list of rookie defensemen, one spot ahead of Ryan Whitney

Quote:
12. Freddy Meyer IV, Philadelphia - An undrafted free agent out of Boston University in 2003, Meyer has been pressed into service because of a rash of injuries on the Flyers' blueline. Not very big, at a listed 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, Meyer still plays with an edge to his game and his 12 points and plus-11 rating in 31 games recently earned him a contract extension.
