Was checking Cap Friendly. He has one more big payday year. $12m for 2017-2018. Then salary drops significantly the following year to $6m.

There's really not that much difference between an 11M salary with 9M cap hit, and a 12M salary with a 7.8M cap hit.

You mean apart from 1,000,000?

Meh, the salary paid isn't the issue, it's only Molson's issue and he was signed off on that trade. At 6M/year, he becomes interesting to a lot of teams if need be.

And the year after, he'll cost 6M$ cheaper.

Right. One guy is cheaper in salary by about a million, the other guy is cheaper in cap hit by about a million, i.e. not much difference.

And hopefully we trade his ass in a few years before the contract kills our franchise with all that negative value.

Dude's lost TEN points over ONE year, he won't lose another ten next year but if he keeps declining we are sure to have to rebuild.

Raise your standards, he got 40-something points and we won a measly two playoff games with him. Oh and his epic leadership got his coach fired... in January. He wasn't great this season.

If he keeps up his play as he did in the playoffs, which is all i really care about (ahem... Pacioretty), then I'm happy with him. Brought a lot to the team that was missing. I understand that there was a tradeoff, so that's for bergevin to solve.

Hard to imagine Sergachev not getting a chance in this scenario. FTM, the trade was made right before we drafted Sergachev. I'm hoping that was the plan. Not that it's great to expose the kid so early, but we need more offense, and I'm not sure we should even expect to lean on Marky for that.

One thing's for sure, if our PP ends up at Julien levels for most of the season, we'll be in a good place.

However far the rangers go, JT Miller's face will still remember Weber.

I loved that epic beatdown as much as any. But I bet JT Miller's face is enjoying being in the second round and not out on the lake fishing somewhere in BC.

Priorities, people. Weber is a playoff zero, hasn't ever even made it past the halfway mark and he's gonna be 32 next season.

The trade happened after they drafted Sergachev. The draft was June 24th and the trade was made June 29th.

Weber was good, not great and had a pretty OK playoffs. Don't know what quantifies as "fun" though.

Miller isn't winning the Cup, let alone this round, and he didn't do much in the 1st thanks to Weber.

He absolutely wasn't the reason we lost and did a lot to help us win since we didn't have any friggin forward apart from Lekhonen, Bryon, Radu, and Gallagher.

Someone mentioned Ray Bourque in another thread. He also had not come near the Cup until he was traded. This whole "Weber never makes it past round 2" trope means nothing. He didn't have a good enough team in the West, and he doesn't have one here. Yet. He shouldn't change his game.

Exactly. If we need to, I think he's tradeable. Cap hit is a little high, but the salary is good.

A team that is losing a veteran presence with salary, like San Jose with Marleau & Thornton, might want him.

I like Weber, but I don't see him having a long shelf live in Montreal. Someone will want him & he'll bring something back, a 1st & a couple of prospects.

Whenever it's decided that we need to rebuild, which could be as soon as after next season, especially if Radulov isn't re-signed, Weber will be one of the few on the team that will have real trade value.

I actually see him as having value just being around for the rebuild (if we have one). He's probably too good and too valuable for that though. Thats a Josh Gorges type role.

I think a lot of posters feel Weber had a better season than he actually did because of how much of a beast he was for the first 20 or so games of the season. He dropped off considerably after that though and never even came close to approaching that level again.

Hopefully he can show some more consistency next season.

He won the Norris after 15 games, you can't ask for more.

We need to get a partner for Weber this off-season. He can be great, but ideally he won't need to cover for the mistakes of a couple of bottom pairing guys like he did for most of this season.

Yes, its Weber's fault we didn't beat the rangers... The offense did all they could but old man Weber really let em down.

Price made it past once.

So are you considered a zero till you make it by "the half way mark"?

When did that become a badge of honor?

"Hey, lost in the third round ....where only superstars tread.

DD made it there. So did Eler and Bourqe. So what.

Members of the third round club.

By "half way there" you mean lost in the third round ?
