He'll be signed in between what Nash and Kovalchuk is getting and what he is getting now. He hasn't proven much after his last contract.

Gabby will have completed 5 NHL seasons after this year is up and from what I understand, the lockout season also counts towards years of service, so he'll have put in 6 NHL seasons and he'll only be 24 this year.

Lecavalier was supposed to be a UFA (a 1998 pick) this coming summer, but he resigned with TB already. As a 1998, Vinny, in 2006 would have put in 8 NHL seasons and have been 26 years old. So, Gabby, being a 2000 pick, depending on how the UFA works (the NHL was dropping the age over the next year or two from 31 down to 30 to 29 and finally 27, but if you have 7 years of NHL exp. you can become a UFA sooner), might only be 1 year away from UFA.

Depending on where he lies, he'd at least go to arbitration if he's 1 year away and then put pressure on the Wild to sign him long term or risk losing him on the open market. If he's 2 years away, then you might see him hold out until he gets a deal he likes.
