Simon Gagné was drafted 22nd overall in the 1998 Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. He made his NHL debut one season later in 1999-2000 and finished second in rookie goal-scoring with 20 goals. That year, he won Rookie of the Month honours in December, was a year end All-Rookie Team forward and helped the Flyers win the Atlantic Division title. In 2000-01, Simon led the Flyers with a +24 plus/minus rating as the team cracked the 100-point mark for the second straight year. In 69 games, he scored 27 goals and 59 points. During the season, he won the fastest skater event at the Flyers' SuperSkills competition (13.898 seconds) and played in his first mid-season All-Star Game on a line with Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull.
No offense intended but we'd rather not trade our future for someone else's past. Comrie and Gagne have similar offensive upside but Comrie wouldn't survive on Hitch's island. It's not a bad idea talentwise but Brewer and Comrie wouldn't fit the Flyers scheme.
