Keith Carney to Rangers?

Spector's Hockey

Click on trade rumours and scroll down.

- Ducks D Keith Carney should be a target for the Red Wings, Rangers and Canucks, according to the Edmonton Journal.

"Only if Burke decides his club doesn't have a real shot at making the playoffs."

I'd love to get Carney...I think he's very solid defensively. The price may be too high though.

Discuss if you like, but Spector's is NOT a valid rumor source.

Doesnt he just post articles from news sources? Seems okay to me.

Anyway I'd like Carney. I was reading the forums (oh hock.ey.nation.s) from a link Jort41 sent me and they wanted Tyutin for Carney. I laughed and laughed and then they offered a first with Carney and I laughed and laughed some more.... ahh well that's it really.

Spector just reprints other rumors so perhaps he is a valid source?

Anyway TSN.ca got it from the Edmonton Journal

Keith Carney would be nice pickup to replace strudwick as the Rangers 6th d-man. The defense has played well but Carney is just a better version of Strudwick.

The content of the site is really his commentary, but yes, he is pulling information from viable news sources.

I know Keith Carney's game has dropped off a bit since Anaheim's playoff run of a few years ago but I see him as at least a second pair defenseman. I am not terribly familiar with the Rangers line combos or pairings but the only defensemen I see on the roster that I would consider better would be Malik and maybe Tyutin. You can make an argument for either Kaspar or Poti but Carney is a solid stay at home defensemen that would help the Rangers tremendously in the playoffs.

I'd take Carney in a second if the price is reasonable. He's exactly what the Rangers need on their blueline. He'd look good paired with Poti, might free Tom up to do a little more risk-taking offensively because he's better than Strudwick.

Actually Spector's usually references every rumor source. In this case the Edmonton Journal. Carney wouldn't be a bad option if Ducks decide to fold tent. Perfect 6/7 defenseman and probably cheap.

I dont want Carney if it will cost any pick from any round or any quality prospects. I dont see a reason to give up quality youth for a 6th/7th type defenseman.

Weekes has a cheap contract but I dont know CuJo's contract status. I dont think the Rangers need to upgrade there backup goaltender. I still cant understand why everyone is looking to get rid of Weekes. Weekes could be starting on other teams and he makes a great backup. And he has a cheap contract. The backup goalie should be the least of our worries right now.

anyone who has been here for a while and read my posts know that i am a huge carney fan and wanted him here a long time ago, i still think he is a solid defensive d-man with some physical presence, however i wanted him here 3-4 years ago, id still take him today but it would really have to be a trade where we arent giving up much

i believe he is an assistant captain over there and they will prob want a decent return for him, if its more than a 6th round pick or a mid tier prospect, im saying sather will go somewhere else for better or worse

please stop mentioning carney and strudwick in one sentence or even in the same post. comon guys, its the same as comparing good and bad. if price is right, lets get carney over here. sather and burke have a history, lets hope they can agree on this one. would be a great little upgrade.

Carney would fit in well with NY, it's just a question of how much?, NY shouldn't give up much for him.

Actually I think Weeks is in at about double what CuJo is making this year. Salary experts?

Joseph signed a one year deal with Phoenix while Weekes has one more season remaining at a $1.95 million cap number

This is a week old from the Edmonton Journal(Feb 19)

Quote:
Rangers: Loaded up front and in goal but New York needs another defenceman after giving up Maxim Kondratiev to get Petr Sykora. They really have no offensive rearguard aside from Tom Poti. The Rangers would love to deal backup goalie Kevin Weekes for someone cheaper
http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/...902ab13&page=2

It's a breakdown of all 30 teams

Quite honestly I like Strudwick, and I like him alot more than Carney. I think he's a top of the line 6th dman. He does almost all you can ask for from a 6th defenseman, and he's done all we've asked of him this year...no reason to replace him this late in the season. I think this team looks great...the only thing we may wanna add would be a top dman, not a 6th, or a gritty forward who can play

That's how i feel. The Rangers should consider bringing in two defenseman in at the deadline. Two depth guys at least because the roster size after the deadline is unlimited. (i think)

Sure...but we don't need to improve on Strudwick and make a deal just so Strudwick can sit. We're much better off getting a number 1 dman

dont look at carney as replacing strudwick. carney would be our 3rd or 4th, or maybe even 2nd. all others would slide down one, strudwick being out of luck because he is 6th.
