Polak, Popperle, Otcenas

Anyone have some info about them? How they're doing? What kind of players they are? Any chance to see them one day in the NHL?

Tomas Pöpperle is currently playing for the Eisbären Berlin in the German Top League. He is one of the best goalies in the league (1st in SVS%, 2nd in shutouts, 3rd in GAA) and has lead his team to the best record in the league.

I read in a interview with the Blue Jackets' goalie coach that Columbus will take him over to their Training Camp prior to the next season. Then he should compete for a spot in the roster.

the cbj nation was very excited with what we saw from popperle in the preseason. We have dubbed him, the popper stopper.

right now personaly I have him penciled in as a possible backup to pascal, in a year after denis is moved.

This could happen sooner. Tomas is a real deal.

Popperle was great in the pre-season (he has a sweet poke check). Any more information you can give to the CBJ nation would be greatly appreciated.

He put together two masterful seasons. Last year he take over reins in Sparta when Petr Briza went down with injury. At age 20-21 he played it cool and in 25 games he had GAA 1.58 and SAA almost 95 pct. And it was during lockout when players like Palffy or Hemsky skated here.

He was the best rookie in this season although he was little bit harder on himself and didnt play the same cool in playoffs.

This year he went off my radar (to Berlin) but he won the title in German league which is not that quality as Czech but it is still quite fine. At age 22 he was summoned by national coach to World Championship as a third goalie. Not bad for him. I see great things for him to come.

Popperle will at least be the starting goalie in Syracuse this upcoming season, and maybe play a few NHL games this upcoming year also. Training camp should be interesting this year.
