- The Flyers are rumoured to be after Tkachuk or Columbus forwards David Vyborny or Jan Hrdina, according to Phillyburbs.com.
Alright Tkachuck not so bad but his salary for next season blows.

Vyborny is decent but do we need a gritty guy with leadership before him.

If we trade for Hrdina I will lose complete faith in this team.

- Coyotes RW Shane Doan and Islanders RW Mark Parrish are possible targets for the Flyers as well, according to the Delaware County Times. Sticking with Doan, the Arizona Republic suggests that the Senators may have interest. Wayne Gretzky has made it pretty clear that he considers Doan a part of the Coyotes' future, however.
What would we want to give to the Islanders besides Savage, Brashear and Therien?

Doan would be a great addition but how much would he cost?

Do not trade Umberger!

Tkachuk would not help our leadership void, and his contract is too big for what he brings.

I imagine the deal will be somethign like this:
Tkachuk and a 6th rounder for

Umberger, 1st rounder, 2 2nd rounders, 3rd rounder.

Tkachuck is expensive and getting in age, not what we need

Vyborny is not the greatest, but he is the best of the three
I don't understand why you suggest we need another gritty guy with leadership
We have plenty character players
We need someone that can find the puck of the net

and agreed, if we go the Hrdina route, then I am opening a vein

The reality, that I see, is we aren't Cup bound this year. So lets look at someone that could help us in the future. I am looking at Chicago. I would like to see an attempt at Calder, Arnason, or Bell(Bell is unllikely). These guys look promising and could benefit our future. Getting a rental now is pointless, I'd rather not see them do anything than get a rental. It would just be a waste of picks or talent.

sorry to disagree with you all but.. Tkachuk makes this team a whole lot better and I don't think we'd have to give up as much as earlier posts say

Vyborny would be a very good pickup.

We need someone who can at least lay some big hits on star players and play more than 8 minutes compared to guys like Brashear, Stevenson or Eager. A guy like Mike Sillinger (too late), Steve Konowalchuk (injured for the year) or maybe even Peca.

Besides Handzus, Richards and Kapanen what other top 2nd and 3rd liners are effective defensive players and bring a physical game? (Stevenson and Radivojevic are 4th liners).

This trade rumour fits under the "Don't do it Clarkie" title....

Richards was offered in exchange for Bertuzzi.

I love the Flyers, but there is no way in hell they have a chance to win the cup this year. There isn't one single, solitary player in the entire NHL (and I mean ANYONE) who would put this team over the top to have a legit shot at the cup. Do I hope I'm wrong? Of course. But it's how I feel. There are too many holes on this team to fill with just any one guy.

- Lack of scoring from anyone outside of the top line.

- Lack of healthy, solid D-men. Heck, I love our top three, but after that what do we have, big, slow, clumsy, trees?

- Lack of leadership

- Lack of a "New NHL" coach with an offensive strategy. I loved Hitch back before the whole CBA mess, but now his style is worthless.

I'm not spreading anything. That came from a site on the internet whose contributor is generally right regarding trade talks. And it's just talks, it's not like it will happen.

Edit: Everyone knows that a rumour of Brashear and Esche for Bertuzzi is a crock. It will take something valuable to get Bertuzzi. Use your head.

I know you're not trying to spread anything, I was just kidding around. I'd go into denial if that trade happened.

Umberger has hardly proven himself to the level where he has become untouchable.

I'd be all for moving Umberger if we can get a decent return in any deal (Jokinen, Doan, Bert, etc)

Richards has been our best player on a lot of nights and consistently works hard even when the rest of the team is doing nothing. He is not supposed to be a major offensive contributor yet he is the most productive rookie we have.

And the difference is that Umberger is a pleasant surprise, whereas Carter and Richards came in as 20 year old prized rookies who will be given some breathing room.

You said Richards and Carter are essentially just as trade-able as Umberger, and I explained why they were not.
