Campbell: really that bad?

I dont get an opportunity to see much sabres games, but the few ives seen Campbell hasnt looked as bad as he's made out to be. He seems to be the only Dman consistently putting up solid numbers on the PP. So is he just outta position a lot, or bad give aways? or all of the above? he's still fairly young so if this is the case, he's always going to have an opportunity to round out his game.

He's just not as good defensively as he is offensively. In fact, he's nowhere near as good defensively as he is offensively.

He still lacks vision in the defensive zone, loses his man from time to time...

I'm impressed with him this season, though I hope he can improve defensively. I'm not sure there'll be as many PPs in the playoffs, and I'm not too keen on seeing him get 15+ mins of ES ice time per game.

He's fine on the PP. No real problems there. But so was "Any Elmre". At even strength, Campbell just isn't strong enough. I don't want to say it's giveaways or being out of position. It's just that he gets overpowered often, leading to opportunities against. That's my take anyways.

A few things to consider:

- Most of his production is on the powerplay
- The Sabres have allowed 12 shorthanders against, and without looking at the game-logs, it's safe to say he was on for some if not a majority
- 5-on-5 Campbell can be pushed around
- 5-on-5 Buffalo can have issues scoring

Pull all of it together and you'll have him in a situation where +/- is never coming out positive.

He's definitely benefitted by the new rules. He flies through the middle where he was often stuck by the trap in the past.

Positionally, he's come a long, long way in his time here. Ruff has broken him in slowly. But because of his lack of size, I think he'll always get outmuscled in the defensive zone, especially along the boards, and be somewhat of a liability.

Take the good with the bad, and he's been real good on the PP.

Overall, I'd have to say, he's better than Any elmore

He's a good PP specialist. Also good at breakout passes, leading the rush, and pinching. No so good at defensive coverage, checking, taking hits, giving hits, clearing the crease, taking away the pass, blocking shots, not screening his own goalie, killing penalties, and not looking like molly shannon.

His hittings come around though -- it seems blasting Bulis turned his season around offensively via the confidence boost. He should watch more film of Rafalski --- small, excellent skaters with good leg strength can pop people.
