Apologies if this has been covered already, I had a look for anything on this topic but couldn't see anything. Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. I've not seen many clips of him play but I've heard a lot about him and he seems like a great guy both on and off the rink. Here is to hoping that it's something he can overcome. Get well soon Boom Boom, we are all thinking of you.
As the article says, he will be in Montreal this Saturday when the Habs retire his #5
The Boomer was my first favorite player. I can't say I remember watching him wear the CH but as a kid, I thought the name was cool. I always thought he was a great guy, great sense of humour. From what I've read over the years, he has the same quality that most players from great teams had, he absolutely hates losing.
I hope the fans welcome him this Saturday and give him the best ovation ever. Deserve it, was a very good player (what I heard) but is battling the greatest challenge of his life and we must demonstrate that we will think of him throughout this illness.
It won't overshadow him all the focus will be on him Saturday night and the fans are gonna be great . It's gonna make the papers front page and will be talked just as much .
"Don't worry, I'm going to be there,' he told me. `I'm looking forward to being there. It's an honor I've been waiting for all of my life, and there's no way I'm not going be there. The doctor says I should be there.'
