Could Milbury just have made a good trade?

Wow, is it just me or did he get a fantastic return for Sopel and Parrish? Grebeshkov AND Tambellini...hell, even just Grebeshkov for those two would be a pretty good deal. Parrish is about even value with Dumont and Kotalik, and I'd trade either of those two in a heartbeat for Grebeshkov.

What do you guys think?

Grebeshkov is looking 50/50 right about now. Tambellini has promise. I don't know, Steve. I'll tell in two years whether or not this was a good trade.

Don't we say that after every deal Mad Mike makes?

Milbury will ruin it by offering them 15 year 7 million a season contracts.

Man, it seems that way. By the looks of it, Tambs and Grebeshkov are going to dress for NYI immediately. I'm not sold on Grebs being a top-calibre guy like he's been considered in the past. I think NYI fans who think they stole this deal are going to find that out rather quickly. Tambellini has good bloodlines, and should pan out.

LA makes this deal for the stretch run. They don't really get better defensively, but they improved their offensive potency. Taylor says he's not done, so I almost wonder if they go shopping for another defenseman, or perhaps even fire up the Luongo discussions again. You have to think Parrish will be good for Brown's development. If he re-signs with LA, then it appears they made a pretty good move.

Don't forget that MM dealt what appears to be a pick in the 35-40 range to land Sopel to begin with. This is almost a nice recovery, but Grebeshkov has to return to draft-hype form or else this one just looks like they got younger again, not necessarily better.

Sopel is an adventure on defense. Parrish is UFA. Grebeshov has been a bit of a bust. Tambellini doesn't suck yet. Milbury wins this one in OT over Taylor with the equivalent of a Brett Hull like SC tainted goal. In other words, who won this one depends on which team you root for.

Short term? LA wins.

Long term? Remains to be seen.

If LA re-signs Parrish, they've got themselves a solid top-6 winger, and hopefully for them Norstrom and Miller will be able to control Sopel.

Grebeshkov at this point is not a sure bet to become a top-4 defensman.

It's about winning, not about gathering prospects. If LA feels Garon is good enough to give them a shot at he Cup, why not make a move like this?

IMO, no winner in this one. If anything, LA comes off better for now. But a move in the right direction for Mad Mike.

I said it on my board considering our bloated salary base[the fact we lost quite a bit of salary in this trade]

I think its very even

LA gets a solid UFA Fw & a D who hopefully finds his way back west

NYI get 2 promising youngsters + a pick ...and lose salary

Looks great both ways

Isles finally win a trade! Parrish is an UFA after the year.
