Luongo

If Gainey gets Luongo today or this summer, will you be happy of the trade ?

Make me a proposal that would be realistic and justifiable for both teams...then I'll explain to you why he can't

Wait...I'll rephrase that...he won't

And just to add to the argument, we have two competent RFA goalies who will make a combined 4-5 million each. Luongo will more than likely make around 6 mil and will more than likely demand a long term deal.

Why get so much cap room sucked away by one player after we dumped a player who was doing exactly that to us? Bob dumped Theo so we wouldnt be handcuffed with his salary anymore. Acquiring Luongo would bring us right back to square one.

I hope Luongo doesn't ever come to the Habs. The last thing we need is to go right back where we were with Theo. Big name goalie, big big contract, bit a rock star persona there, I just don't see the need to take on that headache in a city like Montreal where THE MEDIA AND THE FANS(!) are going to work pretty diligently to manufacture hype at all times. I'd rather have a couple of solid low-key guys like Huet/Danis and Aebischer for a combined $3M or less than yet another rock-star for $6M.

Gainey made a comment on the Team 990 before the season. He was asked about having players earning close to the max., and he said something along the lines of not liking the idea of having 3 players earning 40-50% of your budget. The comment was just conversational, and not really focused on, but I suspect in Gainey's mind, he'd rather 4 - 5M players than 3 for 6M.

Maybe BG tries to send a sign to him? By signing an other one year contract, BG could get him without giving any player for the season starting in 2008-09.

If we get Luongo this summer, we don't have to give any player in return ... If Gainey get Luongo before tradedeadline, he can send to Florida Huet or Aebiecher with a prospect.

When Gainey gave 5 million to Théo he thought it was a good move and it is if théo stop pucks .... If we get Luongo at 6 millions and he stop puck, it's a good move.

Luongo is restricted this Summer....we can't sign him without giving Fla compensatory picks

Aebischer+Zednik+Souray maybe and I say maybe gets you Luongo OR Jokinen. It does not get you both.

I don't like the idea of Luongo in MTL... sure he's a good goalie, but again, he's from Quebec, so everytime there's gonna be something wrong with him, like only ONE bad game or a little problem in his personal life, everyone's gonna talk about it all the time and everybody's gonna say: HIS DAYS ARE COUNTED IN MONTREAL, just like it happened for Theodore.

And you think that the local press isn't going to do the same thing with a goaler comming from elsewhere ?
