I am pleased they still have a pick in every round, plus the extras in the 2nd and third. I was a little taken aback that we had to give up 2 2nd rounders for Gauthier who is destined to become a UFA after the season. I thought he would have been worth a 2nd and a 4th or so, but hey, I shouldn't complain. The Flyers got through the Trade Deadline without losing anyone on their roster. I'm just glad he didn't give up any of the rookies or someone like Ryan Potulny.

I think this is correct...

2006 picks: Flyers have all their picks plus Phoenix' 2nd round (from the 2005 draft day trade) and Chicago's 3rd round (Ellison/Sharp/Meloche trade) picks. They also have an option to switch 4th round picks with Phoenix.

2007 picks: Flyers have all their picks plus Florida's 6th round pick (Sim) and an option to switch third round picks with Phoenix.

So before the Gauthier trade the Flyers had 4 second rounders this year? How does a perennial buyer put themself in that position?

They switched 2005 first round picks with Florida on draft day 2005 and picked up a 2006 second rounder in the process.

They had Anaheim's 2005 second round pick (Todd Fedoruk trade) and traded it to Phoenix on draft day 2005 for a 2005 4th rounder and Phoenix' 2006 2nd rounder.

Also on draft day 2005... They gave Tampa Bay a 2005 4th rounder and Dallas' 3rd rounder in 2005 (one of two draft picks received in the Chris Therien trade) for a 2006 second rounder.

They had their own 2006 second round pick

Which makes the 2nd rounders the Flyers gave up TB and FLA's then right? Meaning they kept their projected highest 2nd, PHO and they lowest, PHI.

It seems like Philly and Phoenix have a running count on trades, where each time they pull off a new deal, Barnett or Clarke can say, you owe me a little extra from last time.
