Can't wait to hear the compensation.

Still thinking about the possibilities.

He's got a contract for 2.75 million next year though.

Apparently he's been playing a lot better since getting out of the substance abuse program, but he's certainly not the Ozo of old. This doesn't make us any better or tougher in our own zone, either.

Ozo signed for next year @ $2.75M though.

Not necessarily the deal I had in mind, but Maloney said he wasn't giving up youth and he didn't. Gotta hand it to him for sticking to his guns.

Don't love it.

We all talked about filling a need and I'm just not sure that the Rangers did that. Who do you pair Ozo with? Seems like another Poti.

comments about Ozo:

Pierre McGuire on the Sandis Ozolinsh trade - He was tremendous at the Olympic Games for Latvia. He was absolutely spectacular and Glen Sather was over there scouting, so that's one of the things that helped get this deal done. Another thing to remember, Ozolinsh and Darius Kasparaitis played well together for Russia in the World Junior Tournament years ago. Ozolinsh will be a big-tim gun on the back-end for the Rangers - and they deserperately need that kind of precision from the point in terms of shooters.

Bob McKenzie on the Sandis Ozolinsh trade - Since coming back from the Substance Abuse Program, Ozolish has been making plays we haven't seen him make for years. He has looked a lot sharper, and looked a lot more with it in terms of his overall play, so that's a potential upside for the Rangers.

He seems like an offensive defenseman who doesn't score... kinda like Poti. Good Luck, Henrik, you're gonna need it.

Yeah, that's the way I feel. I just don't think they got the guy they needed.

I'll go on record and am thrilled with this deal, especially when you see the ridiculous returns that teams were getting today which was w/o a doubt a sellers market.

This is basiclly Niemo for Ozo and with his game hopefully back on track we finally have a true offensive threat from the blueline.

I'm hoping that being just out of rehab that he dives into his profession as an escape and his focus will show on the ice.

And although he is still under contract next year at 2.75 million and Poti's 2.3 expiring I'm not overly concerned about it and we also cleared out the 750k owed to Niemo as a precursor to this deal as well.

One thing I'm leary about however is breaking up either of our top 2 pairs but then again you have to be concerned about pairing him w/Poti.

Overall I give Slats an A for the day because NONE of our youth has been touched and yet he upgraded a significant shortcoming on the team and if Sandis can improve the PP that could go a long way in determining how far we get come PO time where special teams are vital and we know what we'll get from our PK.

Oz for a 3rd is a steal. We needed a PP QB and we got it. And he didnt score many points on the Ducks because they have a much better PP QB. He didnt get as much ice time on the PP.

I watch the last Ducks game and Oz was very good and in the Olympics he was very good as well. Im happy with the trade because of that, and we did loose ANY young players. Look how much other Dman went for this deadline...

Only bad thing is that he has another year on his contract.....

edit- Good Post JR, you said everything I wanted to say but better.

Did we give up our 3rd or the third acquired from the Sharks?

I can't see why anyone would harp on this deal. Ozo is better defensively than Poti easily and is an actual offensive defenseman. We have scored the fewest goals from the blueline this season. Anyone who thinks this wasn't a need is crazy.

I am upset we didn't get a physical defenseman as well, but oh well. I think only giving up Niemo for Oz is a great trade. I can't see any downside in getting him.

SBOB you're just mad we didn't get Leetch

Who does Ozolinsh play with?

Malik-Rozsival: don't think Renney breaks this pair up.

The other two pairs will probably be either

Ozo-Tyutin
Poti-Kaspar

or

Ozo-Kaspar (Latvian connection)
Poti-Tyutin

If I were to think of the exact deal...

and exact person I wouldn't want, it would've been a deal for Ozo, and his contract next year.
