the sabres have such great young goaltending depth. why in the world would they want nabokov?
the sharks also have good (though inexperienced) goalie depth. if they were to trade nabokov, i don't think they'd look for a goalie in return. they'd more likely be seeking a top line forward. or a high draft pick. afinogenov is young and talented, but is oft injured and lacks the scoring punch the sharks need right now. tallinder might be a good addition to the sharks struggling d, but with so much depth in the sharks system, i don't think the sharks would trade for a defenseman without getting rid of one as well.
overall, i dont think the proposal is bad value wise, but doesnt seem to make a great deal of sense for either team.
Biron: So suddenly San Jose has three goalies of about equal ability (Biron, Toskala, and Kiprusoff), none of whom really seem to be top-caliber NHL starting talent. No thanks.
Afinogenov: Of some interest, but I like Cheechoo, as an overall player, better.
Tallinder- So San Jose has the following young defensemen: Brad Stuart, Scott Hannan, Jim Fahey, Tom Preissing, Christian Ehrhoff, Doug Murray, Rob Davison in the pro ranks now, and Dan Spang, Josh Gorges (among others) as well, and they need Tallinder because?
