Anyone else worried about Atlanta?

They are really our only threat for a playoff birth.

And they have played very well as of late. Anyone else a little worried?

And also...Toronto plays Long Island tonight and NY haven't been playing all that well lately, atleast from what I've seen. So lets hope the Isle will pick it up tonight and hand TO a loss

Here's to a playoff birth and a shot at Lord Stanley

Here's a quote from Gainey after last nights win:

"My story for the players has been getting away from eighth and focusing on seventh," Canadiens coach Bob Gainey said. "We are not worried about the Bruins because they have other teams to jump ahead of before they get to us."

-------

I think that's the right mentality for this team to have. They are closer to the team in front of them then they are to the team behind them.

True, I would love to finish 6th though, rather than 7th or 8th

If we finish 7th or 8th we would probably end up playing Ottawa or Carolina in the first round.....

6th would definitely be the better spot to finish in and we are only 3 points back of the Devils. Playing Ottawa or Carolina in the first round would be very tough. The 6th place team will most likely play the Rangers or Flyers, which are two teams I think we match up very well against.

I agree. I think I would love to play the Flyers as we have had their number this year.

Apr 3 2006, Mon AWAY Senators
Apr 5 2006, Wed AWAY Panthers
Apr 6 2006, Thu AWAY Lightning
Apr 8 2006, Sat HOME Hurricanes
Apr 11 2006, Tue AWAY Lightning
Apr 13 2006, Thu HOME Capitals
Apr 15 2006, Sat HOME Bruins

Either way, it helps us that the two teams we're fighting with play each other 3 times. Hopefully those games don't go past regulation...

if we play Carolina...

the series will finished 4-1 or 4-0. Just how it will be Ottawa

Ottawa...ya i know we all say ourselves 'i could see us beating Ottawa'

but do you really think the Senators are going to let the much less superior team Montreal get in the way of the Stanley Cup. They have much bigger goals, we aren't much, an upset would be much harder to achieve than you'd expect.

Now, Philidelphia, New York Rangers, Buffalo, New Jersey, Tampa

we can beat these teams, and therefore we go for nothing but sixth spot in the Eastern Conference

While 6th place would be ideal, I'd gladly take 7th or 8th place. Yes, upsetting Ottawa or Carolina would be very difficult, but even if we couldn't do that, any playoff hockey is absolutely amazing here in Montreal. So even if it's a first round knock out, I'd gladly take that over not making the playoffs (yes, even at the expense of a few slots down in the draft).

However, let's just dream for a moment that the standings end up something like this:

1. Carolina
2. Ottawa
3. NY Rangers
4. Buffalo
5. Philadelphia
6. Montreal
7. New Jersey
8. Tampa Bay

We'd play the Rangers round 1. If we win, and either New Jersey can upset Ottawa, or Tampa Bay can upset Carolina - either of which *might* be possible - we get the winner of Buffalo and Philadelphia in round 2. That's another series that we have potential for an upset in. So, finishing 6th could possibly produce some sweet results.

BTW, Ottawa isn't guaranteed of finishing ahead of Buffalo.

Not to say Buffalo is a worse team than Ottawa, but I think the Habs match up much better against them.

I'd be willing to play anybody really...I'd prefer to skip Ottawa and Carolina though but anybody else I'm happy with.

True. Although I do get some perverse satisfaction out of the prospect of upsetting the Ottawa juggernaut...

Truthfully i am not worried about ATL, as they seem to be a very streaky team. I think its a matter of time till we get the 7th spot and have tampa fight with atl for the 8th. I think the habs have a good chance to be the darkhorse team of this years playoffs if we make it.

Ya...I mean I'm not thinking we're going all the way this year but if we can avoid those 2 then I can see us beating anybody.

Kudos to that!
What a rush that would be to beat Ottawa... some heads would be sure to roll in the nation's capital, that's for sure...

Beating Carolina would be pretty exhilirating as well... considering how well they've played allll year, and their two recent BIG acquisitions...

If we were able to beat Boston who were first in 2002 and 2nd in 2004, we would probably be able to beat Ottawa... I don't say we'll beat them, but it's always possible, if we look in the past what we've done.

Against Caroline, it would be harder... everytime we play aainst them, we lose like 7-2... I wouldn't like to meet them in playoffs. Sure the best would be to play against Buffalo. We have more chances.

I think we will finish 6th.We still have 2 home games against the Devils. We will catch them.

I also think that the Trashers will finish 8th and the Lightning and there #1 goalie Grahamme will be playing golf very early this year..

I would be soooo excited if we played the Rangers, I would be in NYC for every game since by office is only 2 blocks away from MSG!!

I tend to loose my voice at the game cheering for Les Habitants!!!!

MONTREAL IN 6!!!!

Do not fear Atlanta one bit, we need to be in the mode to look in front of us and not behind. Tampa needs to be worried though....

I really see Atlanta making it but not to our expense.
