If any team can pull a Cinderella Cup run... it's the Habs.

They have the team to do it. If it wasn't for that ridiculous slump we had in november/december, we'd be in about 5th place right now, fighting with Buffalo for 4th.

And remember at the beginning of the season, we were winning without solid goaltending.

And remember that game against Philly a few days ago? If Huet was half of himself that day we would have won that.

This Montreal team is very, very good. Our habs are going to prove that Saturday against the Rangers... they're dead

And again next Monday when we punt Tampa in the nut$ by beating them and passing them in the standings.

but do you really think the Senators are going to let the much less superior team Montreal get in the way of the Stanley Cup. They have much bigger goals, we aren't much, an upset would be much harder to achieve than you'd expect.

Now, Philidelphia, New York Rangers, Buffalo, New Jersey, Tampa

we can beat these teams, and therefore we go for nothing but sixth spot in the Eastern Conference
Well, lets put things in perspective before we move on. Montreal can beat anyobdy. You cant just say montreal will surely lose to carolina in 4 or 5 games.

We have seen so many times in history that if your goalie outplays the other goalie, you have a chance. And if your goalie is very hot, you cant STEAL the series just with your hot goaltender. We have seen this happen many times before.

Theodore vs Boston in 2002
Giguere vs Detroit/Dallas in 2003
Joseph vs Dallas in 1996

Those are just some examples right off the top of my head and I'm sure there are PLENTY more.

If you want to talk about preference, sure I'd rather play the flyers or rangers than the canes or sens. But to say that we will automatically lose to the canes or sens in 4 or 5 games is not fair. Especially with the way Huet has played this year and the way Abby has been rolling the past couple months.

I am not afraid. I haven't cheak who is playing against who during the next weeks, but I expect Tampa Bay to be out of the playoffs...... they didn't even manage to pick a "Moose" from an other team to replace Burke.

My prediction of the standings in the East:
1 - Carolina
2 - Buffalo
3 - Philadelphia
4 - Ottawa
5 - NY Rangers
6 - Montreal
7 - New Jersey
8 - Atlanta

That would make a Montreal-Phili first round.....

I agree with some people have been saying in this thread. Stop worried about losing the 8th spot and instead let's get the 7th and maybe even the 6th. We are so close to New Jersey anytyhing is possible.

Atlanta is a very hot and cold team, we should be more worried about what teams in front of us do. I want us to pass over NJ and TB, I think we can, we've played better then they have, all we need is solid goaltending.

People forget that our last 2 games against Carolina we had Theodore putting us in huge holes early on.

Plus we did not even have Markov for both games.

And we were in our huge slump.

You can't really draw judgement on those games and how it transpires to a 7 game series IMO.

If I'm Graham in Atlanta I've got those dates circled. I think the Lightning should be worried, not us.
There's an Ottawa game and a couple meetings with Mr. Luongo in there too. Not the easiest schedule.

I am worried about Atlanta bigtime now that Lehtonen is back. But his health has been a question all year.

And also...Toronto plays Long Island tonight and NY haven't been playing all that well lately, atleast from what I've seen. So lets hope the Isle will pick it up tonight and hand TO a loss

Here's to a playoff birth and a shot at Lord Stanley
Tampa is worried

if you focus on 5th or 6th, atlanta wont be much of a threat. theyre playing well but they got ottawa tonight and montral will have 2 games at hand after that game. if they lose there 3 pts out with 2 more games played.

even philadelphia can be had if they dont get healthy fast. placing 6th is propably better than 5th though. facing NYR is the best alternative to me.

That means there are 3 opportunities for 3-point games.

It would not be a cinch to beat the Rangers in the first round. Their goalie is better than ours and they would murder us if we took a lot of penalties.

not at all

Atlanta will make the playoffs, so will we. My final standings:

3.NY Rangers
6.New Jersey

Yes I think the Devils will stay in 6th they won tonight but we never know I hope we finish 6th but for now I think we'll finish 7th.

Tampa Bay won't make it there goalies are horrible.

Exactly, it is tainted by the "Theodore effect"... So it's pretty difficult to predict the outcome of this potential series right now. Perhaps the game against them on march 16 will give us a better idea on how we could fare against them.

But anyway, we have to remember that the playoffs are another ballgame for everyone. I'm particularly interested in seeing how teams like the NY Rangers, Buffalo and the new "we're no underdogs no-more" Carolina Hurricanes will perform. We also have a few players on our team who are new to this (in the NHL), and I'm also eager to see if we could find some clutch players in Higgins, Plecanek, Perezhogin, Murray, etc.
