R.I.P. Boom Boom

Well, as per TSN, it appears that BOOM BOOM Geoffrion has succumbed to his battle with cancer. This is a sad, sad day for us Hab and hockey fans everywhere. My prayers and condolences are with his family and friends.

How tragic is this man's relationship to the Habs? RIP Boum-Boum...your boys will play with the same fire you had tonight and win one for you.

RIP - Boom Boom...his spirit will be truly felt tonight in Montreal with the ceremony of his jersey being raised to the rafters much like his soul being raised to heaven.

Ironic he died on this day, almost like he wanted to hang on for that day and then said its time to go.

RIP.

This is especially sad for his sons, who came in Montreal for the ceremony tonight and weren't with him when he passed away.

Trully sad. Tonight is going to be very emotional.

I hope they cancel tonight's event. I mean, if I were a member of the family I don't think I'd be willing to attend tonight...

This is just awful news... After reading those stories about how he so wanted to see his jersey raised to the rafters in person, he passes away on the very day it was to take place. A joyous occasion has turned into a memorial.

RIP Boom Boom. A class act all the way. His number's hanging from the highest rafters right now.

In accordance with Geoffrion's last wishes, the family has decided to be reunited tonight at the Bell Centre. The ceremony of the raising of his No.5 jersey will take place as scheduled prior to the game against the New York Rangers.

Anyone watching LCN? They are intervewing his past teamates and Habs are having a press conference it seems.

Depending on what you believe he might have the best seat in the house.

I was just getting deeply pi--ed off when I opened the thread and realized the title line was intended to be R.I.P. Boom Boom and that no one was ripping into the poor guy.

Rest In Peace Boom Boom

So sad that he will not get to see his jersey retired as he always wanted. I hope everyone at the Bell Centre tonight is ready to make some incredible noise for someone who in all that I have heard about, was a great player and a great man.

Maybe tonight they could do a minute of silence followed by a minute of ovation for him.

My thoughts are with his family and friends, I wish them all the strength to get through tonight and to deal with the grieving process.

Unreal.

I dont know if its just horrible timing or its fate. But for a legendary hockey player to be stricken with stomach cancer a week before his jersey retirement, then pass away the day of..its just unthinkable.

The game is really secondary tonight, its gonna be a very sad but celebatory mood.
Boys take out the kleenex box tonight, its gonna be a rough one.

I think you may see an ovation that rivals Koivu's return and Richard's Bell Centre reception tonight. And the man will deserve every second of it.

I wish he could have lived just one more day to see the celebration the Habs are throwing in his honor.
