What is with Koivu and ...

passing all night? At the end of the 3rd period he had a wide open net, and tried to pass to Ryder

That is the 'Coach's" set play. The Ranger goalie was reading the play and stacked the pads to cut off the pass. Koivu did not look, he was just trying to finish the set play.

Yeah he has been taking a few offensive zone penalties and with his speed he shouldn't have to be taking those dumb penalties. We also need to get him & Ryder going a bit more offensively in the goal department.

Since the Olympics, it seems he won't take a shot. I have to think there's a hand or wrist injury. It's not like he's a sniper, but he's passing up every opportunity. Must be a reason.

Unselfishly trying to get his teammates going... get selfish, damnit!

He's also probably still tired, hopefully this week will help him out with that.

don't know , because he rarely took a shot .

He really isn't confident about his shot and i have to say that he's right ; Saku is probably has the softer shot in the NHL .

Maybe he should work on it . I know that Lafleur was practicing everytime , his shot with an iron puck . And what a shot he was having , even if he was in the small size .

Sadly , i don't have a fax . I hope that someone will be gentle to fax him the idea ...Waffledave ? ...Habsaku ?

Koivu's in a huge slump these past 2 months.

If you dont count the game in toronto where he scored 2 goals and an assist in 18 games he has: 0 goals, 7 assists, 26 shots.

Its not really difficult to see at all.

Higgins has done most of the scoring on that line recently while Ryder has not had a one for ages. Could it be Saku wants to give him chances (even if it cost scoring opportunity for himself) to end his dry spell and get him going?

As for Saku having been in slump past two months ... did you watch Olympic hockey?!?

My point is you cannot ignore the extra workload hes been carrying. He was going through contract negotiations with the team before Olympics. Then those two Olympic weeks of high performance hockey, having his business with IOC, traveling to Torino and back even visiting Finland in between, then returning straight back for 6-game NHL road trip. Hes hasnt taken single game out and has been away from home for a month with little rest. You cannot expect that have its effects, hes only human.

How come it has not affected Kovy's play? (14 points in his last 12)

Please remember just how quick Koivu was before all the knee stuff.
He came back to 90%. This is as good as it gets. ( still not bad)
His focus is more to setup man then shooter now. A small shift in focus, but everyone can see this tendancy. His heart is still there, his work is there, his hockey vision is there and his experiance is now at top level.

I think it's just a matter of not shooting. He's fine, as far as the rest of his game.He and Higgins are doing their job, he just won't shoot. Since that's often the best option, and he knows how to play, I suspect he has a hand or wrist problem. He's playing his game in every other way. And yeah, while he gets some cheapies called on him, if he left his stick on the ice, he wouldn't give the refs the choice.

Fourth, with some PP time.

Koivu had a great game. Damn that goalie is good.
