Well guys, now that Theo is gone I have a beautiful Montreal Away jersey with #60 and Theodore on it. I guess I have to get something else put on it now...Any suggestions? I was thinking of Koivu or Higgins.....I'd like to put someone with longevity on there.
Yeah go for Higgins, Koivu one is great, I have one myself but Higgins is more special and I think he's one that's here to stay.
I'm a huge fanatic when it comes to collecting jerseys... but I don't just buy em to have, I wear em too. For the Habs, I had a little cheap Roy jersey when I was 7, outgrew that, got a Koivu back in his rookie season (just my luck he's still there) but I outgrew that too even though it's adorned with all my Hab autographs. I got a current home one with Lafleur #10 on the back but I think I'm going to sell it cause it's not "authentic" enough for me. I have a home one in much better shape with the old pre-1997 blue, red numbers and blue letters that says Roy, #33. As for my Theo red, white and blue, I might get it replaced but it would be with some other name that used to be a Hab. I'm thinking Robinson, #19 (with an A). I've also seen these classic 1950s styled jerseys (but not the vintage ones we wore last season) on ebay and I want to get a 9 or 4 (you know who those guys are obviously) if possible.
because if you have a x-large and you put the name of Koivu on it ....
May i suggest you something different , because all the fans are having the same names ( Theo,Saku ,Ribeiro, Zednik ..) . Why don't you choose ''Traverse '' ? you are going to be the only one to get that one ...
Last Christmas my in-laws gave me a brand new red habs jersey. Because they didn't know which player was my favorite, they chose to put my own last name on the back, with no number (so that I could put my favorite number myself if I wanted to).
I was pretty happy about the gift, but quite ambivalent about seeing my own name on it. Somehow I find it a bit... lame. I don't know if I would put it to see a game at the Bell Center for example. I don't know if my reaction is right or now. What do you guys think?
1. Never, ever put a prospects name on. Even the best of prospects have a high bust potential. Wait until they've lasted in the NHL at least 2-3 seasons before putting their name on a jersey otherwise you may find out in the long term you've got the jersey of a fringe player, a complete bust, or worthless NHL'er that you come to dislike for his dubious impact on the team.
Stick to clear cut NHL'ers.
2. Be certain the player you pick is someome likely to stick long term, an elite young star, or a player the team has built around for a long time are obvious choices here.
Otherwise you may find out a few weeks after getting the players name on the jersey he's unexpectedly been dealt elsewhere. One never can predict what moves a GM may make, so try to stick with the "safe bets".
The obvious exceptions to the above are if the player is one of your all time favourites, then it matters little if he's dealt elsewhere or never scratches out a prolonged NHL career.
