I believe that the following players would be great to get.

Forward:
Arnott ---> He is the type of center that we need. If we decide to trade Ribs for a D then he might be a great aquisition.
Elias ---> I doubt NJ lets him go but he would be great on any team.
Sykora ---> Could be nice on our second line to add a scoring thouch. NY might sign him tough.
Selanne ---> Koivu factor

Defencemen:
Chara ---> Exactly the type of D that we need
Redden ---> Solid all around though I beleive that Ottawa will sign him.
McCabe ---> Could be quite solid but he is really expensive.
Denis Gauthier ---> Only if he isn't too expensive.
Kubina ---> If he's below 3 million.
Markov ---> Hard hitter and could ocme cheap
KUba ---> solid 2nd pairing D

So I guess it's clear that we NEED top end talent.

would like to see a guy like langenbrunner or halpern in the lineup, physical second line players. I dont know if gainey can get a hold of one of these big name d-men coming availiable, but a good second tier guy would be willie mitchell. dont think gainey would sign more than one forward, if any, with the number of young forwards in the system, but I WOULD be surprised if he did not sign a d-man( of what quality remains to be seen).

I would like to get a forward because we have alot of problem scoring goal. A puck moving D would be nice also but I like our D when they are healthy.

Forward
Patrik Elias (lets dream...)
Teemu Selanne (if you need goal for 2-3 years)
Jason Arnott (power forward, leadership)
Sergei Samsonov (small but skilled and still young)

David Vyborny (good player/line 2 but small)
Anson Carter (good player/line 2)

Same here.

I won't get my hopes up, but this summer I'm expecting at least one 'big-name' signing. I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment though, because even if teams are willing to break the bank for a premiere player (which I don't know if the Habs will do), who says they want to play here?

First Post

Jarkko Ruutu, but I have no problem with Aaron Downey (or Ivanans) if he does the job...
Danny Markov, who would play with Andrei...
Replace Radek Bonk by Mike Ricci, he's old but it's Mike Ricci
Jan Bulis, I would like to keep him but he is not a priority...

Don't if there are faults...thanks

Out of all those names, Yelle and Langenbrunner are my favorites at forward.
Any top-4 d-man will do but we need one.
I can live without a "big name" or not getting any help up front (more icetime for the kids ) but we have to get some help on the blueline. That 20 minutes-a-game guy that Gainey wasn't able to get at the deadline (I'm glad he didn't, Witt was never worth a 1st pick) he need to get one this summer. We have money and don't need to give up any assets.

Kubina, Markov and Mitchell would be ideal at whatever the price. We have no choice to overpay with all the taxes , not being contenders and also the fact that 29 teams need one or more defencemen this summer.

I'd love to get Elias. He'd be a good fit on the Koivu line. Kovalev is a RW and Elias is a lw. Elias has elite skills and he's a good goalscorer.

I want Perrreault back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's good at faceoffs and he scores goals! What no habs forward can do!! j/k

Seriously, I don't care if he's soft.....Sundstrom is too but we need scoring.

The ufa's I'd sign: Redden , Selanne, Perreault...me>BG just kidding

but seriously, do ya want Perreault back?

Perreault couldn't crack our line-up. Plekanec is miles ahead of Yanic, I'd rather have Bonk even.
I've said this in August, but I would have kept Perreault over Dagenais and that's the only guy on our roster he could have beaten for a spot.

I can see Gainey going after Langenbrunner because of the Dallas tie-in. Plus, he's the type of player that we need rugged, solid defensively and can pop the odd goal. We have a lot of forwards with finesse portential. Selanne with the Koivu tie in, as long as he's not too expensive. Forward-wise, I'd like us to continue to go with young players, and just continue to add some solid depth. Mike Grier is also an option.

On defence, I would love for us to go after one of Redden or Chara, but it sounds like every team in the league will be going after those guys, they'll command big dollars. McCabe is asking for $5.5 m he isn't worth that at all.

I'd like to go after a defensive type like Jay McKee or Willie Mitchell (who apparently wants $3.5 m., which is a lot).

I'd like to see Bulis come back, plus Huet is U.F.A, while Abbie is RFA. If we sign both what happens to Danis? Halak needs to start in Hamilton next year. He's too good for ECHL.

Then there are possible trades.

Lots and lots of decisions to make in the summer.

My wish list:

we trade ribeiro, bonk and zednik for picks and then sign:

C- yelle, Kozlov
W- Selanne, Bulis (re-sign)
D- One of Chara/Redden/ Jovo/Lidstrom (though I m sure he's staying with the wings) or two of Kuba, Kubina, Zyuzin, Markov, Gauthier

Not sure if we have the needed cap space...
+ bulis at 400thou raise, - bonk/ribs/zed = 5 million freed up
5 mill + 3.6 mill freed up from theo + rise in cap space (I have no idea, so I'll estimated it at +3 mill)
so say 11.5 million for FA's...

1.8 for yelle
5 for redden
3 for selanne
1.7 mill for Kozlov

Selanne-Koivu- Higgins
Kovalev-Kozlov -kots
Bulis- Pleks- Perez
Begin- Yelle- Lapierre/Murray

Komi- Redden
Markov-Rivet
Souray- Dandenault

huet
abby
