1.5M, are you guys insane? The guy wont even break 40 games this year, he barely deserves 1M for his track record.

He is a UFA.

His price will depend on what happens the rest of the way.

a) If we make the playoffs and lose before the Conf finals, he should get a contract like Sean Burke's - 2y/$1.75 per year.

b) Add half million per year if we go to the Conf finals.

c) A Kiprussoff like (3y/$10 mill) for a Finals appearance.

d) And finally a 3 year $12 million deal if we win the Cup.

Wont Huet want a contract that gives him the chance to fight for the starting job with Aebischer next year though? If Aebischer is given a contract for more than the 1.9 million he is making this year, and you give Huet a contract for 1-1.5 million a year you are telling him he is not fighting for the starting job next year I would think, and he would not accept that.

You have to remember 99% of the time UFA's get more than they deserve, regardless of track record. There are going to be a group of desperate GM's looking for goaltending help that will be willing to overpay.

What Heut deserves - between $1M - $1.5M.

What Huet will get - more than that.

If thats the case, I honestly hope Aebischer can do a good job or that we can swap him for a player. Theres no need to put ourselves in the exact same cap position we were before trading Theodore. We cant pay a backup 1.9M.
