He beats out Bobby Clarke for the third spot in the three stooges GM class. Glenn Sather, Mike Milbury and Mike Smithov.

Mike Smith is a mess. Look at how great the Blackhawks have been doing the past 10 years or so. He signed Fleury AFTER he flamed out.

Brought in Berezin, Korolev, Mironov, Cleary.

Let Amonte, Roenick go for nothing and of course his great trades:
Nylander for Simon and Nikolishin
Spacek for Odelien
McCabe for Karpotsev
Gilmour and Dumont for Grosek

I hope we can come up with someone better than Mike Smith if Dolan actually cans Sather, however it's interesting to note that Smith took on the Chicago GM's job the same year Sather became the Rangers GM, actually managed to get the team back into the playoffs, and still got canned. What's it going to take for regime change here?

God, wouldn't that go off like a fart in church. Mike Smith would come on board and the first thing he would do is probably re-sign Vladimir Malakhov.

The good news is that Fedor Tjutin would finally see some time.

Anybody who signs Theo Fleury is A-OKAY in my book.

With that said though, that team is a mess.

Bash Sather all you want but at least he has had some success. Smith is a disaster.

If Smith had gotten Messier and Gretzky dropped in his lap he would have had success as well.

Smithov is one of the worst hockey minds in the NHL, but Sather's the most overrated.

Last I checked the Rangers have the talent and star players and never made the playoffs under his tenure. If you mean his early EDM days, well like said above, he basically lucked out. He's done nothing, absolutely nothing since those years even in Edmonton for most of his career.

Exactly what I mean. He has had some career success. He's obviously not the genius many people thought he was, but dont tell me he had nothing to do with EDM success. You can't build a dynasty by accident.

He hasn't done the job in NY, but at least at some point he has had success. I'm not saying he shouldn't be fired if the Rangers miss the playoffs. He has done a lousy job overall. I'm just saying that he's DEFINATELY considerably better then Mike Smith who has no clue.

Pat Quinn has made better moves than Smith has. And everyone here thinks Quinn's an idiot.
The only significantly beneficial move than Smith has made in the past five years is signing Tuomo Ruutu.

he was saying that to try and save his own ass. by playing rookies if the blackhawks sucked he couldve just said "you cant expect to win it all with rookies can you?" to the owners to help his cause.

Yup. Lets get Smith. So that we can sign Valeri Zelepukin, Sergei Krivokrasov, Igor Korolev, and Alexander Selivanov (my personal favorite...) to multi-year deals. I can't wait! :moon:

I hope to be an intern one day working my way up.

Hopefully they don't have the same philosophy for their staff as they do with their players.

Clarke isn't the best GM in the NHL, but he's far better than those clowns. Clarke would be in the top 10.

I agree. Fleury was screwed up in the head bad but at least he worked his ass off. Give me 4 or 5 players with his heart and guts and I'll give you Stanley Cup contender. Just the same it was a no brainer we had to let Fleury go last year. Way too much of a distraction unfortunately.

Smith signed him but it was really Brian Sutter's doing. Sutter and Fleury were best of friends from their Calgary days and Sutter talked Smith into signing him. Chalk that one up mostly to Sutter.

Now you guys have me wondering if we'll indeed end up with Mike Smith sometime soon. That will stink.
