Defensive Forwards

I received the "Blue and Orange Review" email from NYI.com yesterday and they had an interesting list of what they considered to be the all-time best defensive forwards that the Isles have had.

The way they described it was:

Quote:
Here are the best all-time Islanders we would want up-front if we were protecting a one goal lead in the final minute.

10. Patrick Flatley
9. Wayne Merrick
8. Shawn Bates
7. Michael Peca
6. Duane Sutter
5. Ed Westfall
4. Jason Blake
3. Butch Goring
2. Brent Sutter
1. Bryan Trottier
I thought this could make for some interesting discussion today. Personally, I think that I would have Peca listed as better than Blake and I would think that I would want to fit Bob Bourne on that list somewhere, too. Maybe Anders Kallur? Seemed like he was always excelling on the PK.

I would not have put Blake that high on the list. Heck, he may not have made it at all. Bobby Bourne certainly deserved a spot on there.

Others that deserve consideration: Lorne Henning, Billy Harris, Greg Gilbert (very, very underrated player), Dave Scatchard, and Bob Bourne.

Blake and Bates being in that list is propaganda.

Blake HIGHER than Flats???

Flats was a very unappreciated defensive player it seems.....Hes the type of Foward we wish we had now

Bourne,Scatchard should have been mentioned also.

I'm glad that you all thought that Bourne should have been there. I just remember him knocking pucks off a whole lot of sticks with that loooooong reach of his.

Darth, I totally agree about those guys deserving consideration and about Blake and Bates.

I totally agree. We don't have that type of guy on the roster. Defensively responsible with some size and the ability to score some goals.
